"Hey mom! Jake and I are going to the park a bit." Emma yelled up the stairs.
"Alright but come back soon because the rest of our family are coming over to see Jake!" was the response.
I groaned and signaled at Emma to go outside. Emma smiled at me and followed me out the front door. We started walking towards the local park.
"Does mom really have to call everyone over? I hate the fact that Aunt Lori always brings those disgusting cookies over." I sighed. Emma let out a small giggle.
"Come on. It's your family. They missed you. They haven't see you in a long time." Emma explained. She reached out her hand to hold mine as we strolled through the quiet neighborhood. "But they don't miss you as much as I did."
I kissed Emma's lips and she responded but I pulled back before anyone saw us. "Sorry for leaving you." I muttered.
"It's fine." Emma waved it off. We arrived at the park and watched the children there run around. "So what do we do about Sarah?" Emma blurted out.
"Huh?" I was totally caught off guard with that question.
"We both know that you still have that crush on Sarah. Don't lie. What do we do when you see her?" Emma hesitantly asked.
"Why are you asking?" I asked as Emma snuggled into my side.
"Because I'm afraid of losing you to her." she replied. Tears started to form on the corner of her eyes. I quickly wiped them away.
"We'll worry about that later but just so you know, if I did see Sarah, I would choose you over her. At least you didn't slap me across my face in front of the entire school." Emma let out a weak laugh. If it was anyone else, I would be pissed if they brought up that memory but with Emma, I could laugh it off. It felt natural. "Don't worry. I'm staying with you no matter what."
Emma kissed my lips. "Thanks. It feels great to know that you care for me so much. I love you."
"And I love you too."
We walked around the park and talked with some old friends that we saw there. Some were surprised to see me back and others were **** to talk about anything related to Sarah or high school. Emma and I also saw our old neighbor who lived in one of the house between mine and Sarah's. She just gave me a nod and looked away.
Finally, Emma decided to head back home for the families. We arrived at our house and saw two cares parked in front if it.
"It's show time." I whispered.
