Chapter 37 by DenomZero DenomZero

What came next?

The day of hatching

It was a less than silent night - Mabel had to awaken not once but three times when each of her remaining boys came to shake her awake. Apparently the commotion outside as well as the uncertainty of their brother's fate had made it hard for them to get sleep. This meant that Mabel had to, first, go get a shower to get rid of any remotely arousing pheromones of hers - she didn't want there to be any unneeded raping that night. Secondly she had to order one of her maids to awaken her in the early morning before even the drones.

The morning came eventually and the bitter wake-up smell made Mabel's eyes pry themselves open. She was never happy to wake up in this manner, but as three very troubled boys were snuggled up all so close to her, she really had no other choice than to minimize the risks. She got up to check her privates and was relieved to find no more loads in her spermatheca, or anywhere on her or the bed for that matter. The three boys slept very peacefully on the big bed and Mabel tried her hardest not to do anything rash - she had to also keep herself in check.

Mabel took her morning gown and excused the maid who was diligently waiting in the other room. Then she took a deep sigh and collapsed on the comfortable couch she had in her living room. Images of Robin, the youngest drone of Rebecca, now hers coursed through her mind. She had to find him. She had promised to take care of everyone. Rebecca had in turn promised to take the blame for her stupidness. It was then that it dawned on her. Wasn't today the day of the egg hatching? Mabel felt tingles down her spine and all the way up the tips of her wings. She had to be there or mother would kill her and her drones for sure!

After a hectic morning Mabel and the boys were all ready, wearing appropriate clothing and walking in a neat line towards the main hall with a royal maid. "This sucks... I wanted to play ball with the boys from the pension wing..." Rabbie whined gritting his teeth. "I will not hear any of that there, do you understand? This is a very important thing, we should all behave ourselves." Mabel sighed and took note of the rows of wasp guards lining the walls of the great hall. Then an all too familiar voice came from behind her:

"That's right. It is indeed the day. Imagine, in a few hours you will have a baby sister, Mabel dear." She turned her head to meet the sharp eyes of her older sister Beatrice. She had a blood red dress on with shiny plates of metal on her shoulder and leg - very wasplike. "Yes, I hope you don't feel too old, Beatrice. There's our good oldest sister always making sure of that, isn't there?" Mabel snapped back a little annoyed as the lean and haughty sister followed her to the great doors with her flock of pretty but soulless drones - all of them looking down with nothing separating them from each other, all so alike.

"Ha! Our oldest sister must be just excited to see the newborn. She was like that at least with you. I remember when you first learned to fly, and yes, you became quite good didn't you? Our little Mabel... Now you can rejoyce having a very own little sister. Maybe you'll also feel the same as good sister Abigail did, hm?" Beatrice smiled and while her whole being emitted a negative energy, somehow Mabel could not decipher her sister this time. It was almost like she was genuinely happy about this. Beatrice boarded the first carriage and so did her drones, none lifting their gaze up to Mabel or her drones at any point - knowing how lively drones can be, it alienated Mabel.

During the painfully slow trip to the hatchery Mabel had time to listen to her boys' talking. Rabbie was still grumpy about not getting the time to play football and Robert did his knitting silently next to Mabel. Reuben was different from the two since he was actually interested in the upcoming event.

"Aunt Mabel, is this the same egg mom violated? I wonder if it's fine... Mommy was real mean sometimes." Mabel looked up and found Reuben's thoughtful expression. "Y-yes, let's hope the egg is fine. It was not anything severe, I went to look after it all happened."

It pained Mabel to keep lying, but it was Rebecca's wish that she would stay safe and take care of her drones for her, so she had no choice. "I think she's going to be less pretty than you though." Reuben smiled which made Mabel blush - this boy was always making her like this, it made Mabel a little worried.

After a while they arrived at the hatchery building and headed in. The royal guard were all around the place which was obvious, mother could come out as a bit of a control freak - a lot actually. Mabel tried to erase the past from her mind and made an effort to experience everything that was to come with open arms.
