Chapter 18

Where do they find the truck? At the zoo, or the botanical gardens?

The Zoo

Eric and Lucy followed the truck as sneakily as they could, hiding behind various things as they ran by. Trash cans, mailboxes, bushes, bus stops, benches, lampposts, and fire hydrants. After ten minutes of this, Eric looked up from behind the bush he and Lucy were hiding behind to see the truck pull into an empty parking lot of the zoo.

"Lush vegetation. Wild animals." Eric said, a laugh in his voice. "Looks like we're going to be playing Adam and Eve tonight."

"How bad is it?" Lucy asked, squinting her eyes as they made their way behind the sign for the zoo. "Is it crowded?"

"I think it's just closed for the night, actually." Eric said as he waited for the driver to get out and leave her truck. As they did so, however, Eric felt his stomach drop as the driver absentmindedly grabbed the bag with his and Lucy's belongings in it from the bed of the truck and tossed it into her wheelbarrow as she made it towards the zoo entrance. "Uh, we have a problem..."

"What's wrong?" Lucy asked.

"Well, the good news is that the woman driving the truck doesn't know the bag is there."

"Then let's go grab it before she comes back!"

"That's the bad news." Eric said, "She put the bag into her wheel barrow and went into the zoo."

Lucy groaned as she pinched the bridge of her nose. With the exception of the amazing lovemaking with her favorite student/boyfriend, this day had been one embarrassing nightmare after the other. "Oh, I pray to whatever higher powers exist that that wheelbarrow is used for the food that goes in, and not the food that comes out." Lucy groaned as she stepped forward, "Let's just get this over with..."

"Wait a minute!" Eric said as he grabbed Lucy's hand. "We can't go in there! There's hundreds of security cameras and night guards! We'll get arrested!"

"What choice do we have, Eric?!" Lucy pointed out, "I can't see, neither of us can get into our homes, and we can't call for anyone to help us. Not without our things and my glasses. We need that bag!"

"Well what about security?" Eric argued, "Because I doubt that the ones here are going to be like the one at school!"

"We'll stick to the foliage as cover and hide whenever we can. You know, like we've been doing." Lucy replied. "And if push comes to shove, my older sister works here as head of security. I think I can work something out with her."

"If she's working tonight, I hope." Lucy added in her thoughts.

Eric sighed. He didn't like this, but he wasn't seeing any other choices. He and Lucy had to streak the zoo to get their things back and go home. Plus, he trusted his new girlfriend, so if she was sure that things would work out...

"Okay." Eric said, "I mean, it's not like there weren't security cameras at school, either. We're just dealing with a place that has over a hundred times more of them. But we don't have any other option."

"Lead the way." Lucy said, gesturing to Eric to go first. "I can't see, remember?"

Covering themselves the best they could, Eric and Lucy streaked across the zoo parking lot towards the entrance...
