America is in upheaval. The Civil Rights Act has just granted a huge victory to the oppressed, but it will take many generations for the institutions of racism and segregation to fall. The Cold War is suddenly hot in southeast Asia. NASA rushes to complete late President Kennedy's dream of landing a man on the moon. And each nation looks for any advantage it can find to maintain leverage and avoid Armageddon.
