Chapter 10 by Zanzibar Zanzibar

The Road

The trees thinned out ahead and Emily could see a strip of dark sky through the branches. 'Maybe this is the road?' she thought. She paused, trying to get her bearings. The sound of the fairground seemed quite distant over to her right, so it did seem that she had walked further than she had intended to. But if this was the road, she would surely be almost half way home.

The ground was soft here, and her shoes squelched as she walked forward. A muddy slope lay between her and what she hoped was the route back into town, and there was no option but to climb. It was not too bad at first, but around half way her feet began to slide backwards. She put her hands out and they both slipped in the cold mud, and just for a moment she was secure, on all fours, then her feet shot out and she landed flat with a wet slap.

Emily felt grateful that she did not slide all the way down the slope, but this gratitude was quickly replaced with disgust at the feeling of the cold wet mud on her face and arms, her bare legs, and her exposed tummy. She could feel it soaking into her panties and the remains of her t-shirt and hear it squelching as she moved. She absolutely could not risk going through this again, she must reach the top of the slope without slipping down.

Her feet were unable to get any traction, and her fingers found nothing firm to hold on to. She rolled over onto her back and was able to dig her heels in enough to push herself up the slope a few inches. Being careful to hold her panties in place she repeated this a few times, slipping and squelching through the mud until she felt grass on her neck. As she moved higher the ground became dryer, and by the time she reached the top she was able to stand without fear of sliding. But finally, she had made it to the road.
