The Reality of the Situation

Time: 0415, March 12th, 2154

Location: Medical Office, Lucy's Lament Colonial Medical Center

"Wake up, Annalise." The voice came from the intercom. Annalise was still laying on the floor where the beasts had left her. She sat up, rubbing her face with her hands.

"Dr. Wyandotte?" She said, withdrawing her hands. She looked around the room. "Where are you?"

"I've taken over Dr. Phillip's office." The voice returned. "He has been relieved of his command via company protocol, and I have assumed the role."

"Where's Dr. Oliver?" The Physicians Assistant asked. She knew that Wyandotte's jump to command was a breach of some sort of rank structure. "What's going on?"

There was a moment where there was silence between them. Annalise looked down at her shifting belly. She knew her fate, had seen what happened to Jennifer.

"Why hasn't the someone come to help me?" She said as she noticed the clock on the wall. She had been out for hours.

"There are other matters that must be attended to first, Annalise." Dr. Wyandotte said. Her voice was thick and somehow still condescending and course. "You'll have to stay put and wait for help. Dr. Fischer will be arriving soon, I'm sure, to offer aid to any patients who need it."

"How many more are infected?" Annalise asked.

"Enough." Wyandotte said. Her voice now sounded satisfied.

"I knew not to trust you, the way you were looking earlier when Jennifer was brought in." Annalise said. She scooted back on her butt and piled her torn clothes under her so that she didn't rest on the cold floor. She didn't feel like trying to get up. It wasn't until her belly was resting between her legs did she realize how big she had gotten.

"Annalise, sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good." Wyandotte said. "This will all make sense in time. I promise. For now just try to relax and enjoy your condition..."
