Chapter 10

The Night goes a bit sour.
Despite early attempts to bring Natalie down. Unfortunately, she ultimately prevails and reclaims her crown as Queen of Gaming and defeats both you and Dean's best attempts at bringing her down. It didn't help that your mind kept being distracted by Olivia. Since the confrontation at the door, her mood has deteriorated considerably as the night went onward. She attempted to hide it by playing with her cell phone, but it wasn't long before it becomes obvious. She keeps shooting irate glances at Natalie and huffing an exaggerated sigh occasionally when Natalie would win, or say something.
It's barely 10PM before she gets up and collects her things, "I'm just going to go."
You do your best to hide your disappointment. You know that she wanted to give you some kind of gift, but it would seem that the little argument at the door has soured her mood. "Are you sure?" She nods and you stand to walk her to the door. She turns and enters the kitchen ahead of you and you follow. Reaching out, you gently put a hand on her shoulder. "Sorry about tonight. I know it didn't go like you planned..."
She sighs, "It's fine. I'll see you tomorrow"
"Yeah...I'll see you tomorrow." You want to say something more. You know that you probably should, but you don't know what to say that would solve the situation. Anything you can think of is probably just as likely to make her even more annoyed. So there isn't much you can do except watch her leave. You sigh and return to what remains of the party.
However, it seems as if the damage was already done. Olivia's early departure has soured most everyone's mood. Sure, your little group continued to play games, but the conversation became awkward and long periods of silence followed. Everyone knew that Olivia left mad and nobody wanted to really address it. Finally, Dean nudges Emily who has fallen asleep on his lap and she gets up drowsily. "I'm going to take Emily home. See you tomorrow." Erica also mutters a sleepy reply. You try to hide your disappointment as they leave. The last hopes of the party taking back off have been doomed.
After they leave, Natalie stands. "Hey. Sorry that tonight went so poorly."
"It's not your fault." you attempt to reassure her.
"Yeah, It kind of is." she pulls you into a warm hug, "Happy belated birthday anyway John."
Doing your best to ignore her warmth and the feeling of her breasts pressing against you, you reply, "Thanks for showing up Natalie."
She pulls back and gives you a warm smile, "Don't forget to do your homework." Then she leaves and with Natalie's departure, your late birthday party has ended. Not quite a complete disaster, but very nearly.
