Chapter 8 by si91 si91

What's next?

The Maidenvault

As tempting as the thought of ending the Mad King's life yourself is, you decide the risk is too great. You are aware that Jaime Lannister himself is guarding the King, and while you are quite skilled with a blade, your swordsmanship is hilariously inferior to Ser Jaime's. Plus, while you are not looking solely for personal gain, the Martells are more likely to show appreciation for your actions than the Lannisters.

Most of all, even if you actually did manage to kill Aerys and headed to the Maidenvault immediately afterwards, the risk that you would be too late to save Princess Elia and her children is too high. Although you have been alone for so long and no one ever went out of the way for your sake, you cannot bring yourself to allow any harm to come to an innocent woman and her babes.

Thus, you begin searching for the Maidenvault. It takes you a little while, as you have never been inside the Red Keep before, and you are unfamiliar with its layout. You cannot just ask the servants for directions; they would be under no obligation to answer you. If anything, they may try to obstruct or stop you. So, all you can do is rely on instinct and your own judgment.

After riding for about ten minutes, you manage to locate the Maidenvault. Unfortunately, the only way up there is by a spiral staircase. As such, you are **** to leave Aerion behind. As you climb off your horse, you rub his muzzle and whisper "I'll be back soon." He snorts as though he understands.

You rush up the spiral staircase, and you sprint to the chambers designated for the Crown Prince and her family. Once you are there, you lightly knock on the door.

It is answered about ten seconds later by a beautiful woman of twenty-six years. She is a couple inches taller than you, her long, black hair is straight and goes past her shoulders, her skin is slightly tan (as expected of her Dornish heritage), and her face is smooth and flawless. Despite her being taller than you, she has a somewhat petite frame. She is clad in a flowing gown of light colors, which reveals an ample amount of cleavage.

"Who are you?" Princess Elia Martell asks.

You promptly bow your head and declare "My name is Brynden, Your Grace. I beg your forgiveness for this hasty request, but I must ask that you come with me."

Unsurprisingly, she is unwilling to comply. She asks suspiciously "Why should I? Did the king send you?"

"No, no one sent me," you inform her, lifting your head up, "I serve no one but myself. That is why I came here; because I chose to. Your life is in danger. As are the lives of your son and daughter."

THAT has caught her attention. She seems uneasy now, and she asks a little nervously "What do you mean?"

"Tywin Lannister's forces are almost upon us," you tell her, "Aerys believes they are here to assist him. But in actuality, they are here to seize the city and kill the remaining Targaryens. There is no way I can prove the truth of that claim; all I can ask is that you take flight before the lions come for you and your children."

Luckily, Princess Elia does not take too long to make up her mind. "It would not surprise me if Lord Tywin ordered my **** and my children's deaths. It would not be the first time he has wiped out an entire family. And even if that is not his intention, I have been a prisoner of the Red Keep for months on end. I would rather take a chance with a total stranger like you than put up with my insane father-by-law and the ruthless Lord of Casterly Rock."

You understand her reasoning, and you smile. You tell her "Then get your children and come with me. And please, hurry. Every second we delay is a second the Lannister forces get closer."

Princess Elia nods and heads back into the room. A minute later, she reappears. She is wearing a cloak, and in her arms, she is holding her son Prince Aegon and her daughter Princess Rhaenys. She also has a large bag slung over her shoulder. You assume those are supplies.

You hastily lead Princess Elia and her children back downstairs. You help her onto Aerion, and then you climb on behind her.

"So, where are we off to?" Elia queries.
