The Hospital Check-Up

You check-in at the hospital’s reception, where an attractive young lady tells you that a nurse will be with you shortly.

You flick through your phone, and see that you have an email from Daphne - it’s a short message telling you who’s made the team. Your eyes scroll down to the starting eleven:

“Only? Dang, I really need to be getting back into shape for the upcoming soccer games,” you say.

“You made varsity? Congrats!” Janet says, giving you a celebratory hug. You smell some sort of perfume on her, a sweet little scent that you didn’t realise you’d missed until now.

“Actually, it’s the co-ed team,” you say. “Coach of varsity is a dick and doesn’t let anyone walk-on if they’ve missed a tryout. And you know, since I was in the hospital…”

“Your temperature looks good. I’ll go check if the doc’s ready. Be right back!” she says in a chipper tone, her gaze drifting low for a second as she exits the room.
