Who comes to Sappho?
The History of the Sappho Colony
The Sappho Colony started out as Colony Iota-5, a colony world settled by the Galactic Free States in the year 504 on the Galactic Calendar. A wild planet, the first colonists found themselves in a dangerous environment, but they would come to adapt, and survive. Using genetic augmentation technology, they discovered ways to make themselves stronger and faster, making them capable of evading the wild beasts of their new home.
Time passed on Iota-5, until tragedy struck in 629. A virus emerged that began infecting the population, largely the male population, and the Galactic Free States ordered the planet quarantined out of fear. Left to fend for themselves, the people of Iota-5 were believed to be lost to the infection.
But instead they thrived, the male population of the planet underwent a transformation, turning them into women. A new group emerged from the ashes of the Colonial Government, calling themselves the Sapphics they formed the Council and brought the planet under their control. They came to rename their planet to Sappho, for the poet from ancient Earth, separating themselves from most of humanity.
The year is now 1248 by the Galactic Calendar. The Sapphics have made contact again with the GFS, opening their world up to the rest of the galaxy. They only require that men are not allowed on their world, a strange request, but one the GFS has opted to respect.
