Chapter 15

What next?
The Governor's House.
Gemma walked into the Governor's house two hours after Julien and James had left for the port town of Islis.
The Island they lived was named Rivain. It had three towns. Islis was a three hour horse ride on away, settled in a bay. Islis was probably one of the best defensible cities from the sea, with two fortresses on cliffs that could raise a chain net. No one was invading that town by sea. It was on the. Eastern side of the Island.
In the center of the Island lay Lothering. It started as a mid point for the journey from Islis to the Capitol of Sinclair. Basically started as an inn, a supply store and stables with a guard outpost. It central location though was viewed as ideal and it is the fastest growing town in Rivain.
Then on the north western coast is the capitol of Sinclair. One hundred years ago it competed with Islis for business, but a rather violent hurricane destroyed the docks, piers, and the safe route through the reefs. Since then the most successful venture is construction, and Security. Because of the reef displacement materials have had to go over land.
Officially Sinclair is the capitol...functionally though the village of Highever (where the Caruthers leved, and where the new rebuilt Governor's House was situated) was the seat of power.
"Mistress Caruthers," the senaschel spoke when Gemma got to the Governor's house, "There's a Horatio John-sen here in the parlor. He said he knew you."
"I do. Inform Governor Sloan we have need of the conference room."
The senaschel nodded, and left for the executive offices, while Gemma moved to the parlor.
