Chapter 3
by arn83714
Which group do I decide to eat lunch with today?
The Geeks
Though the people at the school I probably would have been most comfortable with would have been the church kids, I wanted to branch out a little. However, I was only willing to go so far. I still wanted to stay within my comfort zone, so I found myself hanging with some of the geeks.
Most of them were guys, but there were a few other girls there, so I stayed with them for the most part. It was a whole lot more awkward than I would have liked. I wanted to fit in right away, but it was quickly becoming clear that I was on the outside. Though they didn’t reject me or tell me to go away, I felt like an outsider.
Though most of me wanted to get up and leave, knowing that this wasn’t going to work out, I decided it best to stay around. I didn’t want to look like a jerk in front of them. I figured I’d just tough it out and then choose a different group to hang out with tomorrow.
“Violet? Violet?!” I was pulled out of my trance to see everyone at the table looking at me. I recognized the voice as coming from a guy a third of the way around the circular table we were sitting at. He had blonde shaggy hair and was undoubtedly the cutest one there.
“Yeah, sorry, what’s up?” I felt bad that I had zoned out, but I honestly had not expected any of them to have noticed. I couldn’t believe that one of them, Jake, was actually wanting to talk to me.
“We had trig together last period and I was wondering if you wanted to form a study group with me. I mean, it’s just you and me right now, but we could add others as well?”
“Uhm sure, that sounds good,” I said without really thinking too hard. Even though I did want to do that, I knew my parents, or at least my dad, would be rather skeptical of that.
“Sweet, we should get together after school and start it. Just meet me in the library after school.”
Should I meet him in the library?
