The Devil went down to Themyscira...
Meanwhile, back at Dracula’s castle…
Having been guided back to her personal quarters in the castle by the Count, Dinah fumed silently to herself, pacing back and forth across the room. Even though it had only been hours, everything Dracula told her still rung through her head, making her madder as she paced to herself.
Dracula was disappointed with her, and he let her know it. Giving her a speech on the matter of those who give up everything to obtain what they have desired their entire existence. Half of it she was not listening to, shocked that she would be spoken to like a petulant child being sent to her room as a punishment. “I have to recognise the sacrifice of others, honour the efforts of a man with a broken heart… Bah!” She hissed, hugging herself tightly and sneering with fanged lips. “He was a toy… One I lost interest in LONG ago, how was I supposed to know that he couldn’t let go?”
Looking at the silvery surface of the mirror in her private quarters, Dinah posed, tossing her long blonde hair, and smiling back at the thing, uncaring that her reflection never showed itself. “I am perfection! I will exist forever as the most beautiful and powerful woman on Earth, what is some broken-hearted rich boy with a bow have to compare to that?!”
“Preach sister… Preach.”
Snapping around to find the source of the voice in her room, Dinah narrowed her eyes to find she was no longer alone. There sitting on the chair of her wearing an expensive black silk business suit with a red undershirt and small red corsage from his breast pocket, playfully rummaging through a book nearby as he turned his attention to her and smirked. His leg crossed over the other as he closed the book and dropped it carelessly on the desk beside him.
“Who are YOU! How did you get in here?”
Smiling and sitting up from the chair, the stranger smoothed down his suit and gave an exaggerated bow and curtsy to the vampire woman. Standing straight again, the handsome man seemed… Off. He was handsome, probably the most handsome man she had ever seen, but his appearance did not appear natural, there was this nagging sense in her mind that what she was seeing was not real, or natural.
“Well, I’ve never had to knock and ask to be let into someone’s home… I’ve always been there after all, whispering, hinting, and cajoling you to do the most fun you can have.” The man chuckled, practically spinning in his heel before quickly approaching Dinah in an embrace as if to dance. “But if you’re looking for a name? You can call me… Lou.”
Raising an eyebrow as she was gently spun into a formal dance, she could hear music in the background that seemed a mix of jazz and violins, but she could not make out the source. “I’ve been listening on the grapevine that old Vladimir Tepes finally cut you loose, I’m here to give you the congratulatory hurrah… He and I go WAY back.”
“What do you mean?” Black Canary asked, still humouring the man smirk back at her and spinning her in his hand. The moment she was pulled back into another embrace, she found herself in a ballroom that was the very definition of opulent. Golden candle holders with black wax candles, polished ivory buttresses and black and white tiled floors with exquisite red silk cushions and furniture, a roaring fireplace illuminated the ballroom and the music came from overhead balconies where she could not see from.
“You see, five thousand years ago Cain had just gotten over killing his dear old brother and got married to deal with the anguish, and for a while it was… Boring. Troublesome thing marriage is, they say death do you part, but SOME people just can’t let go.” Smiling wider, Lou gave Dinah another spin as their dance continued. “Then I showed up.”
“What did you do?” She asked, wondering where this was going.
“I told him that death wasn’t always the end, sometimes people get spat back out to live again on Earth, SO… I offered him a deal; I made him a vampire so he could wait out ALL the centuries it would take for her to be reborn and the two can live on forever and ever in happy fucking marriage…” There was a moment that Lou appeared sick of what he was describing before clearing his throat, his smile returning. “In return, he would feast on the blood of the living to keep up his little waiting game and any vampires he made to stave away the loneliness would be agents of darkness and evil… Just like ME!” He replied, fluttering his eyes back at Dinah charmingly. Then his smile turned to a slight frown as he rolled his eyes. “Sigh… If it weren’t for that damnable code of honour of his, I’d have SO much more fun with him. His latest fledgling vampires had certainly been interesting; Talia is something of a dud and Vicky was a real rollercoaster of fun… And Zatanna! She would have been a REAL showstopper if it weren’t for that… That…”
“You mean the indigo lantern ring?” She asked with a smirk, almost regretting it when she noticed his eyes glow red before fading back to a crystal blue, his smile returning. “Yes… Now she’s going around singing kumbi-fucking-ya with sick kids or some shit!... But not anymore, I sent her on a wild goose chase across the cosmos for the other rings.” Leaning close, Lou whispered in her ear. “You know what happens to the undead when they bite off more than they can chew? I’ll give you a hint… Ask Doctor Mendez”
“Who?”
Covering his face to hide his snicker, Lou continued the waltz with Dinah Lance. “Right now, my deal with Dracula is still VERY much in effect except for one tiny thing; if he and his living, loving wife ever sire a child together, the deal is finished and I can’t keep up all this fun anymore, no more darkness, no more death and destruction no more fun…” There was a moment he appeared disappointed, even sad before regaining his smirk. “But then he goes and frees you from his will so you could choose between love and power… GREAT choice by the way!”
“Why thank you.” She replied, smiling back at the man as he pulled her close.
“And now we come to YOU my pretty birdie, I’ve been a BIG admirer of your work so far, LOVE what you’ve done with the Kryptonians so far, pure poetry.” He replied, kissing his fingers and blew a kiss to the air. “But NOW you’re FREE! Free to do whatever the hell you want, so tell my Dinah Laural Lance; the Black Canary, the undead siren of the night, the voice in the darkness… What do YOU want?”
“Me?” She asked, sharing in the man’s smile as her mind raced. “I want an empire all to myself, I want to be a scourge to my enemies, I want my slaves and servants to worship the blood stains I leave in my wake as I ruin their homes and kingdoms for amusement, I want Dracula to FEAR me now that he doesn’t have me by the collar! And when I have him grovelling under my heal with his cat-slut dead by my hands, he will call me Mistress of Darkness!!!”
“Oh… We are going to get along swimmingly.”
Letting her go and giving her another curtsied bow and kissing the back of her hand, Lou stood up and snapped his fingers, the ballroom disappearing instantly to be replaced with Dinah’s personal quarters once again. Wiping his hands, Lou made his way towards Dinah’s door when he turned to look over his shoulder. “I’ve got a rather good thing going with Dracula, keep that deal going and I might offer a favour or two, in the meantime? I suggest you live it up… Well, as much as a ‘Queen’ of the damned can.” Without opening the door, Lou disappeared through the heavy wooden door. Chasing to follow, Black Canary swung the door open and looked out the grand hallway, finding no one there, her guest gone as if he were never there. Slowly closing the door behind her, Dinah made her way down the halls, thinking on what she was just informed of.
“So many possibilities, so much potential… Where do I start first?” Taping her black lip in thought, the vampire woman was beside herself at the possibilities. Looking up, she found Selina Kyle make her way down the halls to meet her, the werecat was in her human form and gracefully walked the halls as if she knew them as easily as she knew the back of her hand. Crossing her arms with a cautious smile, the dark-haired woman gave off an air of peace that Dinah found sickening.
“Hello Dinah, your husband will be staying with us for the foreseeable future, I’ve given him quarters in the East tower.”
“The East tower?” Dinah asked, with a raised eyebrow, crossing her own arms as she listened in.
“Yes, you may not have accepted him back, but my husband has decided he shall stay here as a guest.”
“Is that so?” A wicked idea crossed her mind, one that made her smile. “Perhaps I made the wrong choice earlier, I’d like to see him.” She stated, pretending to give Selina a caring smile and made her way down the halls of the castle once more, an idea forming in her mind. As soon as she found the door to Oliver’s quarters, Dinah rapped her knuckled on the wooden door and waited. “Oly…. It’s ME, Dinah.” She called out from the door, she didn’t have to wait long before the door suddenly burst open and she found him pulling her close, kissing her deeply and clutching her into an embrace as if he would lose her if he let go. Gently stroking his hair, Dinah made her way inside and gently closed the heavy door behind her.
“I thought I lost you… Lost you forever…” He whimpered, only to be shushed by the pale skinned woman, tracing a finger to his lip and staring deep into his eyes with her own.
“Now come on Oliver, you know that was just an act I put up for the others, you KNOW I still love you, don’t you?”
“I’ve ALWAYS known! Always!” He answered, his eyes wide as he listened to her alluring voice assure him.
“Good Oliver, good, because I have so many plans for you…”
