Chapter 11 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

What extra building has popped up on campus?

The Bear-It-All Strip Club

Finding the new building on campus was as easy as leaving the dormitory; as soon as Shuichi took the first steps towards the courtyard, he noticed the most out of place building. Slapped gracelessly atop what was formerly a close-cut green lawn, the new facility was two stories tall with a garishly purple exterior and dark-tinted windows. The name of the establishment-- Bear-It-All-- was displayed in huge, yellow block letters over the entrance, along with a neon-lit image of Monokuma striking a sexy pose and removing a high-heeled shoe from his stubby doll foot.

Rather than approaching the building unprepared, Shuichi pulled out his Monopad to get some information up front. Judging by the notification light, he ought to have some info about this new addition, however, he also took a quick stop by the map to see who was in the building. Right now, it looked like Angie, Kirumi, and Rantaro were exploring the building. Two questions occurred to him: the first, why weren't Maki, Himiko, and K1-B0 investigating the building? The answer revealed itself in where they were instead: Maki was with Kaito in the dining hall, while Himiko was with Tenko in her room. K1-B0 was with Miu in her laboratory which was... disturbing, but he couldn't worry about it for now. In two out of three of those cases, they'd chosen to return to people who they were good friends with in the past-- people who had died and come back to life. He couldn't blame them for that. If only he wasn't stuck running all around the campus, he'd love to slip back into that community routine himself.

The second question: was Rantaro brought back to life still thinking he was a survivor from the 52nd Danganronpa game with tools to survive the 53rd? What could he possibly be thinking right now, living here with no killing game in progress and with that room full of tools that had been prepared for him completely wiped clean? Would he see himself as the Ultimate ???, the Ultimate Adventurer, or the Ultimate Survivor? The guy's whole character had become pretty much framed around the killing game, so it was hard to imagine how he'd live without it. He'd also heard everything K1-B0 said, presumably, making things even more complicated...

The worst possibility occurred to Shuichi: what if Rantaro took his expectation of the killing game to its logical **** and started it himself? He'd have to hope that the boy was stable enough not to try something like that.

Shaking that thought from his head, Shuichi refocused his attention on the Monopad.

Shuichi thought he understood the theming of the Monokub missions for today. Most of them seemed easier to accomplish in a setting like this, although... in a strip club, normally, the strippers remove their own clothes, right? He wondered if Monotaro realized that when he made the mission. The boy sighed and approached the building, then opened the double doors inward to the booming sound of music.

The entrance hall was empty; his only immediate company was a bunch of tacky statues of Monokuma in various sexy poses, surrounded by pink neon lights. The music was cranked up high, but it wasn't at all what he'd imagined. A club like this would normally have either raunchy music for the strippers or something with a beat that you could dance to, right? Instead, he heard a sort of warbling throat chant, accompanied by deep, furious drumming, like something from a religion-affiliated exorcism ceremony. Shuichi blinked to adjust his eyes to the atmosphere, then went in further towards the show area.

Rantaro was nowhere in sight, but he spotted Angie Yonaga, laughing and jumping up and down with her hands raised and her yellow parka flapping, stationed at the DJ turn-table behind the stripper's stage. Despite the atmosphere, she was dressed the same as always, with a saggy yellow parka over a white bikini top and pareo skirt. The girl's long, white hair swished this way and that as she bobbed from left to right. Her tan skin gave her an exotic look; he'd heard she was an islander, or at least, that was her backstory. Her familiar laugh rang out over the dance floor as she waved her hands to and fro. She might actually look pretty fitting in a party setting, but with no one else visible, Shuichi thought she looked like some kind of maniac instead. Then again, she often did.

"Shuichi! Are you here to join my Atua Worship Circle?" Angie called out over the microphone, causing him to briefly cover his ears at the enthusiastic volume of the question.

He picked up the pace, running over to her across the dance floor in order to discourage her from using the speakers again. "I-Is that really what you're doing right now?" Shuichi questioned, once he was close enough to speak over the music. "It doesn't seem like there's a congregation." The deity, Atua, was still pretty confusing for him... this name was one Angie worshipped, but he'd always suspected this "Atua" was a fabrication of Angie's, designed to give her control over her cult. He'd never say anything like that to her face, though.

"Well, we just started about an hour ago! Atua understands that others may take a while to file in, because nobody likes going to church," Angie nodded with a sage, peaceful smile. "But look! You've finally showed up! I'm surprised you didn't ask me about Atua, Shuichi. I don't think we've had much of a chance to talk about him yet! That shows that you're an enlightened person, maybe?" She pressed one finger to her lower lip, as though trying to decide whether she believed that or not. "Atua says don't get carried away and act like you know everything about him! Tsundere Atuaaa!"

As usual, conversations with Atua's star disciple proved difficult for him to follow. "Why is your Atua Worship Circle meeting in a strip club?" Shuichi asked with an awkward smile.

"The acoustics here are divine, nya ha! Also, they had our traditional worship music already loaded into their system. This place is surely blessed," the girl nodded with a serene smile, while clasping her hands together. "I've decided that this whole building belongs to Atua now."

"R-Really? We should..." Shuichi started to protest, then clenched his teeth. He knew he wouldn't be able to talk her out of it by himself and, annoyingly, the lack of a killing game meant their community had no real form of organization to override things. Ideally, though, he'd like for Angie to plan her worship sessions elsewhere... This tool would be hard to use if it was full of Atua devotees. It was hard to imagine people flocking to her strange religion, but he'd seen it happen before in the last game. Angie had a sort of bizarre charisma about her.

"You want a strip show too, right?"

Shuichi gulped, suddenly flinching and nearly backing off the elevated stage area as Angie poked her head closer and tilted it to an odd angle.

"I understand... Atua understands! A strip club that only does stuffy church stuff would be the pits. Don't worry! I've got a couple things planned that I think you're gonna be really excited about, Shuichi... But I'm gonna need your help for them."

Why did Shuichi feel like he was suddenly being sucked into this cult's magnetic pull?

What does Angie have planned?
