Chapter 2 by SecondOrion SecondOrion

Who does he target?

The Appraiser

Asmodeus was ready to take the risk. The chance to manipulate the mind of this enjoyably trim appraiser was too good to pass up. Nervously, he shifted his focus from the meek ogre girl to the more confident appraiser, who seemed sure that he couldn't possibly disobey her instructions. When the ogre girl felt no change, she looked up cautiously. A sight that should not have been, was so. The appraiser stood there, eyes empty, devoid of life. She didn't sway, she didn't tilt, she just stood.

Asmodeus had seen mind magic before, and it had never looked like this. He was also caught off guard by the strange emptiness he felt. Even more shocked was how quickly he felt that new void filling. Now, Asmodeus wasn't stupid by any means, and he could easily infer that it was his mana regenerating. However, he was understandably confused by the sudden sensation of being tackled to the ground by the ogre girl. Reeling from the sudden pain of colliding with the floor, he thought quickly as the ogre girl recovered.

"Protect me!" he shouted at the appraiser, in a moment of desperation. As the ogre girl moved to hit him again, she was blasted off of her sitting position on top of him and fell sideways onto the floor. She wasn't dead, but she was clearly incapacitated for the moment. A little panicked, his mind raced. He had no time to test how his power worked, maybe he should've just played along. Shit shit shit shit shit he thought, looking back and forth between the limp body of the ogre girl and the listless appraiser. Calming himself down, he realized this wasn't the worst outcome. If he could figure out his powers with the appraiser he could get out of this and maybe even have some fun along the way.

Time to get testing.

Does he test or just blindly trust that his powers are perfect?
