That’s part of being a secret agent

“As far as your girlfriend is concerned,” says Blunt, “well, the fact is that there are certain things required of a secret agent, and fidelity to your girlfriend is going to have to take a back seat to national security.”

“Now wait a minute,” protests Alex. “If you think I’m going to cheat on Sabina ....”

Mrs. Jones interrupts him. “I understand, Alex, but think about it this way: as citizens, we value human life, but as secret agents, we sometimes have to kill. As regular people, we value our relationships, but as spies, we have to do whatever it takes to accomplish the mission. Do you think our married agents get a pass from infiltrating operations just because they have someone waiting for them back home? All of us have to put that aside and realize that it’s precisely because of those whom we love that we temporarily do things that go against our nature. When it comes to Sabina, you can either come to an understanding with her that this is just part of your job, or you can choose to keep this part of your job from her. Either way, it’s ultimately for her that you do this.”

Alex hadn’t looked at it this way before. On the one hand, it sounded like a cheap way to rationalize cheating on his girlfriend, but he had to admit there was some truth to what Jones was saying. If SCORPIA ended up winning, Sabina and millions of other innocents would stand to lose a whole lot more. If stopping them could be accomplished through a little sexual infidelity, was that too high of a price to pay?

Alex nodded begrudgingly. “I see your point. So what am I supposed to do?”

Mrs. Jones looked at Blunt before answering. “We think you need a bit of training, Alex.”

“What kind of training? I thought this was reality TV, not the kind of thing with professional actors — well, aside from the porn stars, if you call that ‘acting’. Wait a minute... Am I supposed to be an amateur or a porn star?” His voice took on a note of panic as he asked the question.

Mrs. Jones kept her voice even and calm. “Either way, Alex, your cover depends on you being a lot more sexually confident and experienced than you are.”

Alex didn’t know whether to be offended. They had video evidence of his sexual prowess with Sabina. “What are you saying?”

Blunt answered. “She’s saying that although you and your girlfriend have undoubtedly ‘made beautiful music together’ — several times a day, according to one report — your experience with her hardly qualifies you as the confident ladies man the producers of the show expect you to be. If you are unable to perform, your cover will be at risk.”

“Unable to perform?” Alex’s face grew red. If there was anyone in the room who needed a ‘little blue pill’ to put some lead in the pencil, it was probably the guy sitting on the other side of the desk.

Mrs. Jones interjected. “It’s not just a physical thing, Alex, although you might be surprised at how few men are able to — focus — when the camera is pointed at them. But for you to be believable, you have to give the impression of a young man who knows his way around many women — not just one. For that, you need training.”

Alex thought he knew where this was going. “And what does this ‘training’ consist of?”

Mr. Blunt pushed a button on his desk, and the door to his office opened. A young woman stepped in as Blunt said, “I will leave the details — and you — to Vicki. Good day, Alex.”

Alex recognized that his time with the head of MI6 was concluded, and he rose and followed Vicki out of the office. As he followed her, his eyes went to her shapely ass that swayed in a most hypnotic way as she led him to the elevator. He wondered if she was going to be personally involved in this “training,” and immediately rebuked himself for allowing his mind to go there.

Once they were alone in the elevator, Alex asked, “What can you tell me about this training?”

Vicki smiled and asked, “What do you think your training should consist of?”
