Chapter 6 by DreamingSpace DreamingSpace

What do you say to Lisa?

Tell her you had a really weird experience.

You get yourself some coffee. You feel extremely well-rested, but it gives you something to do with your hands and it does taste pretty good with a squirt of mocha. "Do you have some time and some spoons to spare for me? I had a really strange experience last night and I'm not sure what to do."

Lisa closes her textbook and slides it aside. Anatomy & Physiology. Lisa is pre-med, and even if she weren't smarter than you, which she is, she definitely works harder. "Yeah, okay." Concern wrinkles her brow. "If I need to take your temperature, don't drink that."

"No," you shake your head. "I feel fine physically. Actually better than fine - better than I have in a while." You sit down across from her and wrap your hands around the coffee cup. "I came home last night and my phone seemed to shock me. Then I had some sort of vision, I guess. There was a woman who told me a lot of crazy stuff, and said she was going to give me powers. It seemed really real, but in the daylight it's harder to believe." You gesture vaguely to the sunlight streaming in through the living room window.

Lisa looks very concerned. "That sounds really scary, and if we were in a movie I'd try to reassure you it was just a dream. I know you had dinner with some people last night. Is it conceivable that one of them might have **** you, as a prank? Those kinds of sudden hallucinations and a later feeling of euphoria...you never know what new synthetic street **** there might be." You know that Lisa thinks your friends are shady. Compared to her, you and everyone you know are shady. Still, it's a logical explanation. "Oh! I'm so sorry. I heard you cry out last night, and I thought you were just having a bad dream. I should have checked on you..." You know Lisa wouldn't enter your male bedroom without hesitation unless you were married, related, or bleeding out, so she must really care if she feels bad about it.

"Don't worry about it. I don't think it was ****. I haven't felt dizzy or disoriented at all."

Lisa is no less concerned. "Well, it would still be a really good idea to go in for a tox screen, anyway. Have you been hearing voices or seeing things at any other time? Or noticed any other changes, like changes in your sleep, appetite...spending habits...sexual promiscuity, strange or intrusive thoughts?"

Lisa hesitated around spending habits because she's worried you might not be able to make rent if you had a manic episode and emptied your bank account, but wants to stay focused on your well-being. You're surprised she didn't blush around sexual promiscuity, but she must have dropped into some kind of clinical mode.

"Oh, and, of course, you don't think these powers are real, do you?"

How do you respond?
