Tawdry.

It took a few minutes of careful consideration, but finally Link reached out and chose the third dossier, Tawdry. While the other two had minor benefits towards escaping or fighting, this one had the highest chance of actually being the target of the criminal, which was the most important thing, overall. Zelda looked at his choice and nodded. "I'll make all the arrangements for documentation and lodgings today. You need to go inform your commander that you're going on an indefinite leave at my request, he will understand not to ask further questions. Meet me in your new apartment tomorrow, before dawn, and I'll cast the spell." Then, expectantly, she reached out her hand, which Link took. They shook hands firmly, and she said, "Good luck, hero."

The rest of the day went fairly smoothly for Link. Just as Zelda had promised, the guard commander didn't bother asking questions, and Link didn't own too much stuff, so cleaning out his barracks wasn't difficult. Instead of sleeping, that night Link made a plan of attack. First, seem as innocuous as possible. Try and match the profile. Two, while at home, train. This body wasn't likely to have the muscle memory and speed of his current one, and he needed any edge he could have in actually capturing his criminal. Three, he was going to give Zelda most of his magic items for safekeeping...with the exception of his hookshots. They were small, and easy enough to use no matter how different his body was.

When the time came, Link tried his best to get to his new apartment as quietly and sneakily as possible. Of course, he was a knight, a guard, a hero, and so sneaking wasn't his best trait. Luckily for him, it was early enough in the morning that no one was awake and outside to see him embarrassing himself doing rolls and tiptoeing around. Once inside the apartment, Link immediately noticed Zelda waiting inside for him, sitting at the small table near the door, wearing a nondescript black cloak for concealment. "We don't have much time, Link," she said in a whisper. "I'm going to put the enchantment on now. Are you ready?"

Link nodded, and Zelda walked over to him and placed a hand on his forehead, and from there he began to feel the magic worming it's way down through his body. The first thing he noticed was his short, blonde hair growing out, becoming softer and curlier. His face was also changing, smaller and softer, but the finer details were lost on him without a mirror. His entire frame compacted, his shoulders narrowing, his waist shrinking, his height falling. His arms, legs, and torso lost their years of muscle definition, instead becoming softer and more feminine. His thighs expanded out a little, giving them a curve of their own, and with them his hips widened out and his butt started growing, until is stretched out his breaches uncomfortably tightly. Link's body hair disappeared in a flash, and his nipples grew larger and more sensitive. The pectoral muscles under his nipples became softer and started to expand out, bit by bit, until Link had a large pair of breasts peaking out of his shirt. Last, but certainly not least, Link's downstairs department had a severe downsizing, until there was nothing there at all. Then, he felt a few more changes, his new female genitalia coming in, and with that the transformation was complete.

Zelda surveyed her handiwork with a grim face, but he could see the spark of satisfied pride in her eyes. "This will have to do. There are new clothes for you in the dresser of your new bedroom. There's food here already, everything you need to start this temporary new life. Your shift at the tavern starts in the late afternoon, so you have the rest of the day to get used to this. Good luck." With that parting message, Zelda left the apartment, leaving Link alone.
