Chapter 2 by DesireeOak DesireeOak

Does Tails go to the door or to see Cheddar?

Tails goes to see Cheddar

Deciding it was best not to risk a later confrontation with Cheddar, Tails weighed his options carefully. Eager to ensure a peaceful visit, he thought paying a visit to the big dog would be good. With a reassuring nod to himself, he turned his steps towards the imposing figure of Cheddar, who lay regally in front of his dog house. "Better to be safe than sorry", he thought. After shutting the gate, he let it latch with a soft click and veered off the path leading to the front door, instead heading towards the large dog house.

Cheddar, noticing the movement, lifted his head, his ears perking up as he watched Tails approach. The Great Dane's size was imposing, and even though Tails was familiar with him, the dog's sheer mass made him pause for a moment. Determined to make the interaction friendly, Tails waved his two bushy tails in a friendly gesture, hoping to remind Cheddar of their past playful encounters.

"Hey there, big guy," Tails called out softly, his voice a mix of cheerfulness and caution. "Remember me?" Cheddar's ears perked up at the sound of Tails' voice, his body still as he processed the familiar yet infrequent visitor. Tails continued to approach slowly, each step measured and respectful of the dog's space. After a tense moment, Cheddar's tail began to thump against the ground, a cautious wag that hinted at recognition, or perhaps just interest in a treat. Encouraged, Tails took a few more steps forward, and sees the dog is still chained up to his little house.

Just as Tails was close enough to almost touch him, Cheddar's demeanor shifted. The thumping stopped, and his body tensed. Tails froze, as the dog let out a low growl, a clear warning. "Easy, Cheddar, it’s just me," Tails murmured, trying to keep his voice steady. His mind raced with the sudden shift in atmosphere, aware that the next few moments were critical.

As he neared, he realized he had a decision to make—a choice that might dictate how the next few moments would unfold. Reaching into the thick fur on his chest, Tails could pull out a small treat he had stashed away just in case. Dogs like Cheddar often responded well to a bribe of food, and it might ease the tension of the greeting.

However, in the past Cheddar had responded well to just being pet. Tails hadn't been around the house in a couple weeks, but it could still work.

The options are...

Don't give Cheddar a treat?

Give Cheddar a normal treat? (Not yet written)

Accidently give Cheddar the wrong thing? (Not yet written)

Does Tails give Cheddar a treat, or try to pet him?
