Straight to work

The car ride was filled with random small talk, as Madge tried to get a picture of her new co-worker, and you did your best to provide a reasonable identity. Thankfully college wasn't needed, and you could simply say you were from out of town without it raising any eyebrows. Madge also gave some insights into how working at the salon works, telling you that Eleanor, much like Carol, is a busybody who's always in someone else's business.

Once you arrived at work, Madge went to work setting up her nail station and Eleanor gave you a run through of what your expected tasks were.

"Each customer has a preferred shampoo based on hair type, this one is for dyed hair, this one is for curly, etc." Eleanor explained. "I'll have it written in the schedule which shampoo they get. Once you have them in the chair, all you've got to do is tap the pedal, lean them back and start scrubbing. I'll let you know when you're done and I'll take over."

"Sounds easy enough." you said.

You were also finding it pretty easy to walk in the kitten heels, though you weren't sure of the way that your hips went from side to side in the skirt as you walked. As you inspected one of the basins, a young woman walked through the door of the salon, waving to Madge and Shannon.

"Looks like we've got our first arrival!" Eleanor exclaimed. "Head over to chair one,"

The woman walked over to the first chair and sat down. You took note of how she was dressed, a polka dot dress, pretty high heels and perfect makeup. Seems to be a trend in this period. She sat down and laid back, allowing you to adjust the chair and dip her head into the basin.

"You're a new face here! I'm Cindy, I'm a regular, but you'll figure that out once you start to see me every week." she said as you squirted shampoo onto your hands and started scrubbing.

And thus, the small talk ensued, replete with gossip about women that you'd be no doubt meeting over the coming weeks as you fell into your role as shampoo girl. But it'll be worth it once you get your first paycheck and can start work on the machine.
