Straight ahead

Well, you're already facing ahead, you think, why challenge what may very well be fate? Besides, it's as good as guess as any. So you begin to walk, pacing through the desert ahead, wondering just where you might be headed. After an hour's journey, you see ahead what looks to be a town, distant, but still a town. Your heart leaps, but your thirst stills it.
You need water, and soon. Hopefully, you'll find some in this town, if you make it there. As you head toward it, you realize that distance can be deceiving, knowing you're closing distance, but not seeming to get any closer.
After two hours of walking, you wonder if you should take a brief rest before continuing.
