Steel creeking

The sound of twisting steel inaudiable to humans grated on SuperMan's ears like fingernails being dragged across a chalkboard. He kicks in his speed, his arm and shoulder muscle stretching and bulging as he pushes himself to get to the river bridge jammed with rush hour traffic.

His X ray vision reveals a series of bridge trusses overheating. His super hearing detected microscopic tears in the steel plates securing the different parts of the bridge to one another. With superspeed he scans the situation and determines it is only seconds before the center span of the bridge will give way and drop the buses and cars into the river below.
