“Are you sure?” Danny asked hoping that Macy had just peed herself.

“Yeah,” Macy answered moving back up to the door. “Not surprised though, guess the squatting on the toilet just moved things along.” She said looking out the door at the two women walking away from them. “Do you think they heard anything?”

“No. I think they were already gone when your water broke.”

“Good,” Macy grunted finding her spot at the wall. “Then we stay here.”

“For how long?”

“Oh just until this kid pops out.” Macy scoffed, “Or until the day is over. Whichever comes first?”

“Whichever comes first?” Danny asked a bit unnerved but quickly steeling her resolve.

“Well, my money is on the first, but that’s just a little inside tip.” Macy groaned as she came to the floor.

“So what do we do until then?” Danny asked sitting next to her.

“Well,” Macy answered digging in her left pocket, which was still dry as was the other. Then with a flourish, she produced a small square pack. “I brought playing cards, poker?”

“Sure. Deal.” Danny said grunting with a small pain herself.

“You okay?” Macy asked dealing out the first hand.

“Yeah, I’m just,” Danny said pausing to pant through the discomfort. “I’m just wondering how you get through yours without barely letting on.”

Through the next several hours, and countless games, Macy told Danny about her other births. She told Danny about how with the first she almost gave in and called for help but was **** to go on simply because there was no phone in reach. How she had used showers to ease the pain, a fact that Danny was very interested in hearing about. Then she told about the second, that was born right here at school because she panicked and ended up missing the bus home. Through each story and experience, Danny thought her own experience would be more manageable. Macy’s contractions quickened and before long she was **** to take off her jeans as the baby’s head slowly slammed its way out. After a few minutes she decided she needed to start pushing causing Danny to wonder just what she should do.
