Chapter 10
by Softiron
You decide to...
Stay and fight for Jews (yeah!)
Closing your eyes, you nod your head. ?I?ll stay,? you proclaim. Cheers spread throughout the tavern basement. Roland extends his arms for an embrace and you accept. The rest of the evening is spent in celebration, drinking and dancing. You meet many of the rebels, and learn of a history that was never thoroughly recorded.
Life is hard in medieval England, but incredibly rewarding. To wake up every day knowing your purpose and fulfilling it is ultimately satisfying. Roland teaches you the ropes, taking you on several reconnaissance missions. You even rescue a few Jews from the Tower of London, awaiting execution. While the work is hard and dangerous, simple things like retraining your vocabulary is the toughest thing you have to do. After a year of training, you learn the streets and customs of London and effectively blend in with the rest of society.
Your beauty and sincerity serve you well, as you are able to make friends with many high ranking officials, which only aids in the rebels? ability to rescue and recruit new members. You are treated like a queen, revered among the Jewish community. But you don?t feel all that special. The politics of the crown haven?t changed, and more days than not you are fighting an uphill, and ultimately futile, battle.
Over time, you fall in love with Roland. You knew he had taken to you almost immediately, but you kept your heart guarded out of respect for your past and fear of the future. One dreadful night, after a rescue mission failed, you were nearly caught by a royal guard. Roland fought off two guards all by himself, saving you from certain ****. Upon returning to the hideout, you invited him into your room and made love to him. In the morning, after discussing the past night?s events, decided it would be safer for you to lead from the security and privacy of the rebel headquarters. One guard who fled the scene had a pretty good look at you, and your safety would be compromised for the time being as they search for a lady with your description.
You do your best to motivate the rebels and organize their missions, but the cause seems more hopeless as each day passes. Jews are still being expelled and executed with regularity, and the king seems to being growing more powerful as he prepares his war with Scotland. The work finally catches up with you one morning, as you fail to get out of bed, doubled over with pain and sickness. Roland locates the group?s physician, who checks you over, with the highly limited tools and education of his time. After a thorough check-up, he looks at the two of you.
?I believe this is nothing to be worried about,? he smiles. ?Roland. Gabriella. You?re with child.?
Words cannot describe the emotions that overcome you. Roland kisses you and holds you tight, which you reciprocate the best you can.
?You have about seven months yet, at my best approximation,? says the physician.
?I am happy for the two of you. And for all of us. We welcome the new addition to our family.?
Later that evening, you are paid a visit by your religious leader. ?Is something wrong?? asks Roland. He rarely visits with good news these days.
?I have been foretold of another prophecy,? he begins. ?Your child as yet to be born has great strength in his soul. He will grow to take your place, Roland, and will make greater strides in the name of Jewish freedom than has ever been imagined. Special, this one will be.? He offers a rare smile. You and Roland look at one another and share in his joy. ?Take care of that baby,? he says, as he turns to leave your room.
?We will!? you both call back in unison.
