Chapter 19 by tailteller

Day 1: How does it start?

Startled

James woke suddenly, while it was still dark. Aurora had dragged him halfway down the bed by his feet. At first, he almost screamed. She looked horrifying in the dark, until his eyes focused. He managed to calm down and look at his clock. 2:32am, it read. He got up slowly, yawning while he tried to find his phone. She grabbed his hand and tugged him to the bathroom.

He saw what he was fairly sure was so urgent rather quickly. The tub was murky. Her having scales, that probably didn't make for a good place to lay. He glanced at the clock again, before making his choice. He pulled her back to the bed with him, and she began chattering and flashing white and yellow. He guided her into laying down, and grabbed a towel to soak in water before wrapping her torso in it.

She looked startled at first, but relaxed when he crawled into bed next to her and pulled the blanket up. "We're gunna deal with aaaalll of that...tomorrow." Hejust barely saw the room tint with lavender before he fell back asleep.

It was Aurora's turn to be startled next. Her screeching overshadowed the usually aggravating sound of his alarm. The entire room had lit up with flashing red light, and she'd torn the blanket in her haste to stand. He slammed the alarm clock down to turn it off, and wrapper his arms around her. Her breathing remained quick paced for some time, but once she calmed down enough to look at the room and at James, she sighed. Once her spots shifted into a dull blue, James let go of her. He slowly set about readying himself for work, trying to figure out how to convey that he would be back. Thankfully, Sally had an idea ready when she arrived. Showing Aurora him leaving, and then a picture of the clock set to 4pm before having him walk inside again. It seemed to work, but left him wishing he could speak to her. The blinking white and yellow color around her head told them she was still confused somewhere.

James left early from work that day, to pick up some food items and several supplies to try and make a system for light based communication. It ended up amounting to a strip of stick on color changing LEDs on the arms of a jacket. Still, it would be faster than sifting around on his phone.

How is Sally handling things?
