Stand in the middle of The Quad

The City College is a few squat, identical, L-shaped buildings bounding the corners of a small green campus space, called The Quad. People play with frisbees or have informal soccer matches out there, but there isn't a sports team and hence there are no real sports fields. This is just a place for people to go get associate's degrees or network certifications in the hope that it will improve their income in some way. You're taking classes because people said you were smart, but you haven't been smart enough to pick the right ones if your past paychecks were any indication.

The admin building includes...administrative stuff, you suppose. It's where you've talked to financial aid and signed up for courses before, but you never really paid much attention to how the college is organized. The library is full of all kinds of knowledge resources, you assume. You think your attendance at class might be spotty now that you have all this magic stuff going on, so maybe you should talk to your professors. The maintenance department is in the basement of one of the buildings, and the shadows around it look somehow darker than they should be - there's also some weird graffiti around the overhead door.

There's a group of people hanging out under a tree and talking idly. They aren't your friends, really, but you know who they are. It might be worth having a word with them.
