Where do you start?

Squat machine, perhaps?

You had never used any sort of workout machine before. Unsure of where to start, you take a minute to watch the other gym members as they operate the equipment.

His eyes caught on a particularly fit gentleman who performed several reps of squats at a machine that mounted many large weights on a barbell. The barbell then rested on his shoulders. Once he was finished his spotter fastened the barbell so it would stay aloft, allowing him to step away from the machine and rest.

As they two moved away from the machine, you step forward and examine the weights on the machine. Doing some quick math you estimate there are roughly 150 pounds on the barbell. You werent sure how much weight you could lift, but if the other guy could do it so could you.

You step under the barbell and support it with your shoulders. So far the weight seems effortless. With your newfound reach, you undo the fastening to allow the barbell free.

To start you do a quick rep, you feel almost nothing, which leads you to wonder if youre using the machine correctly, though you were sure you were using the machine the same way as the man before you.
