Chapter 89 by zenxraider zenxraider

Decisions decisions...

Spare her, and tie up loose ends.

You had bigger plans in mind. Shoving aside whatever worries had brewed up during this encounter, you bend down and haul her into your arms, slinging her over your shoulder as you dealt with the most important detail of the hour; the burning building you currently still stood inside. Your body thoroughly shielded with aura, you break out into a sprint towards the shattered window and leap to safety, the wind whipping through your hair as you take to the rooftops, cloaking yourself as you went so that you wouldn't be noticed by the gathering masses of White Fang at the base of the ruined apartment. Once you had reached safety several buildings away, you pause and gently lay Cinder down so you could get to work.

To begin with, you place a thumb and forefinger upon her forehead and forcibly induce a coma, locking away her consciousness until such a time you could focus on her training. Now completely helpless to your powers, you carry on into the second order of business; drawing out her share of the Fall Maiden's power. Peering at her soul itself, it was quite discernible as a much lighter shade of amber orange as opposed to Cinder's deep crimson, though the two were constantly intertwined. Would siphoning this power even work the same was as you had with your own divine energy? You had no way of knowing yet you felt compelled to try. Taking a moment to step back and think, you're then struck with inspiration. Drawing upon your memories of spending years playing the Elder Scrolls video games, you focus your powers into the palm of your hand and conjure a grand soul gem, opaque in color and shaped like a star. You smile to yourself, knowing this gem would be the perfect medium for isolating the Fall Maiden's power. With a proper vessel in hand, you begin the arduous task of severing the connection between Cinder's aura and the Fall Maiden's.

The task was perhaps even more difficult than turning Penny into a real girl. The process could best be visualized as snipping through bolts of dyed cloth with sporadic and twisting borders. Even the slightest fraction of Cinder's presence in the Fall Maiden's aura could taint the entire patch, something that you just knew would prove disastrous when you eventually reunited this power with its other half. Thankfully, with careful precision and infallible focus, the task was completed soundly and the now pure aura siphoned into the soul gem for transport, the gem taking on a glittering amber color. Upon completion of your labors, you stand and restore your outfit to its original state before incineration, pocketing the gem close to your heart as you take on the final step in this process.

Raising your hand and focusing your energy much like you did with Torchwick, Cinder is enveloped in a ruby red prism of energy that rapidly shrinks her body down to be able to fit in the palm of your hand. What's left behind is a dull, multi-faceted garnet reminiscent of the jewel that Neo now carried with her. It was the most practical thing you could think of to keep the truth of Cinder's capture a secret from the rest of the world. Smiling at your handiwork, you pocket this gem away as well for future use. For now though, it was time to regroup with your girls.

As if on cue, you could hear and even feel the distant rumble of a cave in far across the caverns of Mountain Glenn. With Adam's forces thoroughly distracted by the destruction of their benefactor's home, Team RWBY was able to complete their mission successfully and thwart a terrorist plot to breach Vale's protective defenses. All that was left now was to deal with the Bull himself. Once you wrangled the leader by the horns, the rest of his following would capitulate. Pacing to the edge of the roof, a ridiculous and yet oh so enticing idea strikes you, an idea too good to resist.

"Adam Taurus!" you call out to the White Fang scurrying below in a thunderous voice.

The chaotic confusion grinds to a halt as thousands of pairs of eyes turn up towards you, but only one pair actually mattered at the moment. The sea of soldiers steadily parted as Adam himself marched forward at your call. Stepping lightly from the edge, you jump down a full ten stories to ground level, prepared to meet the Leader of the White Fang face to face. His troops part at his approach like Moses splitting the Red Sea so that he could meet your challenge.

"What have you done?" he growls furiously as he clears the crowd.

"Isn't it obvious?" you say with a grin. "I took care of that sexy little thorn in your side. And here I thought you'd be a bit more grateful."

"Silence!" he orders, yet you continue smiling. "You've ruined years of careful planning and preparation! Our revolution was finally coming to fruition, and now because of you, Humanity will continue to dominate the Faunus unopposed!"

"Quite the contrary," you rebuke. "Your reign of terror is coming to an end, your rampages only worsening your people's standing with the Four Kingdoms. Standing before you is no mere human but a God. You would be wise to surrender."

"Over my dead body," he snarls back at you, drawing his scarlet blade Wilt a single inch from its sheathe. "I know who you are, what you've been doing. If you really are a God as you claim, then I will prove that even a being such as you can bleed and die like anybody else."

No further dialogue was exchanged, no fanfare present or advance warning. Adam simply rushes at you with blinding speed, clearing the distance within the blink of an eye and lunging with a quick-draw of his sword. He wanted a quick and simple ending to your life, something that you could actually agree on. You had no intention of humiliating him or otherwise drawing out this fight. You were tired, beyond horny, and eager to get back to your girls. Reaching out with your hand, you catch the blade mid swing to Adam's horror.

With an impassive expression on your face, you snap Wilt in two, sending Adam stumbling off balance. With equal speed, you spin the broken blade in your hands and lunge forward, skewering Adam through his heart with pinpoint precision, his aura shattering along with it. He chokes out a shocked gasp of pain and disbelief.

"Im-impossi... ble..." he gasps. "How... how...!"

He falls limply forward into your arms, the light of his soul rapidly fading. From beneath his mask rolls a solitary tear, and in this moment you were struck with a feeling of pity for the man who knew nothing but pain in his life.

"Not... like this... not... not fair..." he begs.

"Rest easy now," you say into his ear. "Your people are in good hands."

As a final shuddering breath leaves Adam, you lay him respectfully upon the ground. At this point in the story, he had yet to commit the atrocities at the Fall of Beacon and his usurping of the throne back home in Menagerie. Misguided as he was, he was still more of freedom fighter thus far, and would die as one. You then turned your attention to the gathered White Fang as silence falls over them. Realizing you weren't moving to kill them as well, their weapons fall from their hands, hitting the stone beneath their feet with a clatter. One by one, they fall to their knees in servitude, the magnitude of their defeat dawning upon them.

"We surrender," one of them croaks out from the front, the despair clear in her voice.

Your features soften. Their lives were now in your hands and you were faced with another dilemma. Ironwood's forces were fast approaching. Their capture and arrest would no doubt result in either hard labor or execution, given how Atlas generally treated its criminals. Vale wasn't much of a better fate either as life imprisonment would be the most likely sentence for those who collaborated or participated in acts of terrorism. The words you've spoken in the past come echoing back to you. Just what kind of God did you actually intend to be?

Mercy, justice, or cruelty?
