Chapter 5 by DodgerMan DodgerMan

What's next?

Sorry What?

Hey again, this chapter didn't come out quite how I wanted it to, and had to have sections of it rewritten a few times, but hopefully it's goodish. No sexy times yet, but I'm building towards it. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
Sorry this chapter took so long to come out, life hit me really hard last month, but hopefully everything will be coming along better from here on and I'll be able to come out with regular enough chapters.

Roland's breath caught in his throat. He wasn't sure he had heard her right to be honest. That or it had to be a sick joke. He'd resigned himself to his life as a classless peon for the last 6 years, and now this random mage from the capital had arrived and told him that actually he could have a life, that he could have a class and that soon he would have. But despite his disbelief, something inside him was singing its agreement to the statement. He was getting a class.

"Now it just needs to be seen what class you'll be getting" Tara leaned back into her chair, tension leaving her as she relaxed into her seat. "From the fact that your visions were triggered by my arrival, I'm hoping for a mage based class. Finding you on my first day will give me a lot of clout back at the academy, and it's about time that I find myself an apprentice." She seemed to be mostly talking to herself at this point.

"Either way, we should be able to learn more out of what your visions showed." Her attention turned back to him, and she was wearing a smile on her face now, a stark contrast to the intense look from before the questioning began, and yet Roland felt his stomach drop after what she just said.

"I'm pretty well versed in vision lore, I should be able to give you a rough idea of what kind of class you'll get, just tell me what was in your vision." Her smile was friendly, but Roland still found himself sweating at the thought of telling her about the vision he had had. Would she get rid of him in case he decided to spread rumors? Surely he'd at least be arrested.

It was clear that Tara wasn't a patient person, and she was starting to frown at his hesitation, displeasure blooming on her face. It was clear to Roland that he needed to say something, and quickly before she started asking questions that he couldn't answer. Tara might have forgotten about the truth stone sitting on the table, but he hadn't, and no matter how friendly her smile was and how pretty of a girl she was, it was still clear in Roland's head that she was here from the Royal Mage Corps. She was government, but more importantly she was military at her core. If he was a problem, he wouldn't see the outside of this room ever again.

"I-I don't r-remember much of what h-happened" He managed to stutter out, which only served to deepen her frown. " You were there" he hurried on, as from the corner of his eye he could see the truth stone beginning to turn a shade of deep red that would lead to trouble for him. "An-and you were smiling at me." He was rapidly trying to think of anything about the vision that didn't involve her lack of clothes, her face covered in his semen or his dick in his hand, but those details were seared onto his brain, and the rest of the vision seemed to be blurry in comparison.

However his attempts to conjure up a safe for work version of his vision clearly were not to Tara's satisfaction, and she was leaning forward now, intense gaze locked on his face and frown deeper than it had been since they'd entered her office.

"Mr Imrem, please tell me what your vision was about, or I might be **** to take some measures that neither of us will enjoy." All the lost tension and more were back in Tara's posture, and Roland knew that this might be it. He wasn't even sure what his class was, but it can't be good. He had been afraid to tell her about his vision because of both the embarrassment that went along with it, but also the fear that she would lock him away in a worse place than the Frontiers. Prostitution and sex based classes were illegal in Kalovia, and Roland had gotten used to the relative freedom that the Frontiers offered him. But now it looked like if he didn't talk he might lose more than his freedom.

Just as he was about to open his mouth, still not sure what he was going to say, another splitting headache hit. Vision going white again, he looked up blearily, blinking his vision back. This time he was standing in the same office as he had been a moment ago, except it was him behind the desk, in the lavish chair. He couldn't see them but he somehow knew he was flanked on both sides by heavily armoured bodyguards. Across from him was Tara, and fear was written across her face, but that wasn't all. He could almost feel her fear. Not only that, there was something off about her that he couldn't quite put his finger on for a moment. It was only when he leaned forward to get a look at her did he realize that he could see something inside her, a strange sort of wispy form of... something that seemed to permeate her entire body. With a start Roland realised that he could interact with this something, and that it was from this that he was getting the feeling of her fear. Then his vision went white again, and with a jolt he found himself staring at the outstretched palm of a royally pissed of royal mage.

"You must be further along than I thought, you need to tell me what was in those visions of yours or gods help me I'm going to blast your head clean off." She was demanding now, more than before, and her voice had taken on a steely edge that brokered no argument. Suddenly Roland felt something switch inside him, and his gaze sharpened. He could see the fear in her stance, the uncertainty in the way she held herself. It wasn't because she was untrained, to his eyes her fear was clear, and its source even clearer. She didn't know what he was capable of, or what he would be able to do to her. But that didn't make any sense, he was classless.

"Just calm down Miss, I'm no threat to you, I'm a classless farm worker, you're a military trained mage. Let's both just take a seat and talk this through" His voice was different now, he realised with a start. Gone was the nervous tone and the stuttering, now he spoke with a confidence and calmness that he definitely didn't feel. But the words came easily to him now, almost flowing with how fluidly he spoke them, and he was sure they were the right words to use.

The mage across from him relaxed imperceptibly, tension leaving her arm and her palm lowering so it wasn't aimed directly at his head. To Roland's newfound gaze though, this was a huge change, and hope bloomed in his chest as for the first time in a while he could actually see himself walking out of this room a free man. This hope lasted all of five seconds, as Tara shook her head sharply, and tensed up again. If anything, she seemed more tense than she had been before, if that was even possible.

"Social based class attributes, possible diplomat or negotiator. He must be right on the verge now." Roland barely caught her mumble, not that it did him any good as he didn't understand half of what she was talking about. Just as he was about to open his mouth to continue speaking the words that seemed to come to him so easily, he felt whatever had switched inside him switch back. Suddenly the words caught in his throat, no longer could he tell whether she was afraid, he couldn't see uncertainty in her posture, to him she was as rigid as steel. And all the words that he were about to speak a moment ago had all slipped through his grasp. He knew that he had been about to say something, and that it would have been the 'right' thing to say, but now he couldn't even fathom what they might have been. Fear gripped him anew as he lost all the confidence he had gained a moment ago.

Here he sat, staring up at the outstretched palm of someone who could blow his head clean off with a single flex of power, if she so wished. He had been afraid of being locked up, but now he felt fear for his life, after the last vision he had had. If he had a royalty or conqueror based class he had even less chance of leaving here a free man than before, and there was a definite chance of him being 'taken care of' as soon as he told her. But he didn't see any other way out. His best bet was to tell her about his first vision and hope that she'd take it as it was presented.

"I do remember my vision" he said, a sudden sense of calm coming over him. 'This was it' he thought, 'I'll leave here a prisoner of the state, and a criminal, but at least I'll get to keep my life.' At his admission Tara's eyes widened marginally, but she didn't relax.

"You were there, I didn't lie about that, but we were both naked." Her eyes flicked over to the truth stone and she relaxed a lot more, realizing now that she knew he wasn't a threat to her. He had a sex based class, illegal? Yes. Dangerous? Not even a little, especially not to someone like her. Her palm was still aimed at his midriff, but that was still infinitely better than it being trained directly on his face.

"We were engaged in activities of a sexual nature" He hoped that remaining vague would embarrass her less, and keep her in the relaxed manner that she seemed to be returning to.

"And that's all?" She was searching his face for any signs of hesitation or untruthfulness, but she didn't find any. Everything Roland had told her was true, and the truth stone had attested to that for him. Hope returned to him as he sat there, ready to say the words that would lock him away for a long time, but gift him back his life. He could already see on Tara's face that she had moved her thoughts away from any immediate danger he might pose her, and towards the paperwork that this would land her, and the disappointment that she wasn't getting an apprentice.

"That's all" Roland realised his mistake as the words left his mouth. Suddenly, the room was bathed in red as the truth stone switched color, and her palm was back aiming towards his face. Any distraction was gone from her mind as she refocused her attention back on him.

"What else was there Imrem?" The steely edge was back in her tone, this time with some impatience slipping in.

"O-okay okay, there's more, okay?" Seeing his chances of living slipping from his grasp, he was quick to attempt to calm the mage down.

"The second vision, t-there were more people." the stone was yellow again, he had to continue. "you were still there, except I was sitting in your chair and you were sitting in mine" Already Tara was narrowing her eyes, trying to discern the type of class he was talking about. The stone was still yellow, and Roland was too afraid to stop now.

"T-there was, I could see something under your skin, and I could touch it. You were afraid, and I knew that because I could feel the thing inside you" Finally the stone turned green, satisfied with his answer it seemed. But while the stone was appeased, Tara was not. Palm still raised, Roland could feel something gathering in the air, something heavy.

"What did it look like, Mr Imrem" Her voice was strained now, her entire body tensed. The pressure in the room was almost suffocating by this point, and he could see something beginning to blink into existence centered in her palm. A small blinking orb of light was flickering into life, and it filled him with nothing but dread.

"I-it was like a-a-a mist or something, it kind of just spread out throughout your body. I-I don't know how else to describe it, please-please don't kill me" He was begging now, his **** flashing before his very eyes. He locked eyes with her, and for the first time since he'd been invited into her office he saw sorrow in her gaze.

"I'm sorry Mr Imrem, what you saw in your vision was a soul. I'm so, so sorry." After saying those words she closed her eyes, even as the previously flickering orb of light, now the size of his fist, seemed to reach critical mass.

Roland jerked back as the entire room was filled with a blinding light.

And that's chapter 4. As I said there was something about this chapter that felt a bit off, but I haven't been able to place it.
