Something sweet

You had noticed Emily comment on a client’s bag following a meeting. She had spoken very highly of it, but seemed sad that she couldn’t afford it. You spoke with the client later and got the details of the bag and ordered her one. It was more expensive than a typical present for a secretary, but she worked hard and you wanted to keep her happy.

“We are going to take a long lunch” you tell Emily as you grab her present and head for the door. “You pick the place, the company is buying.”

The Mexican restaurant was nothing fancy, but they had the best chips and salsa in town, so you got a table for two. Drinks at a business meeting weren’t unheard of, so you ordered a round of margaritas.

As the waitress went to retrieve the drinks, you handed Emily her gift. As she unwrapped it, a shocked look comes on her face.

“You shouldn’t have” she says, tears welling.

“I know you wanted one, and you work so hard. It’s been a good year for the company and I couldn’t do it without you”

She smiles as she wipes the tears from her eyes as the waitress brings the drinks
