Chapter 15

What a day, huh?
Some Explanation (background and concepts)
Hey there,
this is not part of the story but rather a chapter where I want to talk about character inspiration, concepts and ideas. I will title each segment with the arc they are covering and the chapter numbers you should have read beforehand to minimise the possibility of spoilers.
Arc 1 "The Pharos Academy Tournament" (chapters 4-13)
This was a story arc divided by a long period of absence on my part. The key concepts had been pretty consistent the entire time although some of the character concepts changed.
The point of this arc was introducing the original characters in an isolated bubble as they needed more attention due to an obvious lack of established presence.
Characters:
Eugene Bluebeard
- age: 20
- weapons: "Infotracker" (tablet/bracer) and "White Dove" (Arming Sword)
- semblance: "The Key/Ownership"
- appearance: skinny but fit, pale skin, blue hair and eyes
- colour: blue
- lore and inspiration:
This character is based on "Bluebeard" a french folktale.
Eugene is Greek for noble or well-born referencing his family background.
Bluebeard is the name of the antagonist of "Bluebeard". He is a wealthy man who has a habit of murdering his wifes. The term bluebearding has been coined to mean killing or seducing and abandoning a series of women. The character is potentially based on Gille de Rais, a man who fought alongside Joan of Arc.
Infotracker is simply a descriptive name, as it is closer to a scroll than an actual weapon.
White Dove is chosen in reference to both the symbolic white dove that represents love and peace as well as the story "The White Dove" which is similar to "Bluebeard".
The Key is my personal name for Eugene's semblance of Ownership and references the key in the story "Bluebeard". This key represents Bluebeards superiority over his wive and can be interpreted as being associated with the male penis.

Lila Serach
- age: 20 (a few months younger than Eugene and Jean)
- weapon: "Samael" (whip) and "Rif" (stiletto dagger)
- semblance: Seduction (control through sexual attraction)
- appearance: short, curvaceous but slim, fair skin, black hair, purple eyes
- lore and inspiration
the character is inspired by Lilith and other jewish mythology
Lila comes from Lilith and is also German for purple
Serach comes from three sources. The Book of Sirach which contains ethical teachings. Serach of Khazar, who convinced her husband, ruler of Khazaria, to convert to and establish Judaism as the official religion. Serah bat Asher, only granddaughter of Jacob out of 54 grandchildren.
Seduction is the general theme of her character along with judgement (hence her sadistic streak).
Samael from the archangel Samael, the accuser, seducer and destroyer. He is also the partner of Lilith and engineered the fall of Adam and Eve.
Rif from Rabbi Isaac al-Fari (acronym RIF) who is the author of the Halakha, the jewish law.

Jean Burgundy
- age: 20
- weapon: "Beauvais" (hatchet)
- semblance: "Motivation" (aura regeneration)
- appearance: toned, tan skin, dark brown hair, dark red eyes
- colour: dark red
- lore and inspiration:
She is based solely on Jean the Hatchet
Jean after Jeanne Laisné, also known as Jeanne Hachette (Jean the Hatchet)
Burgundy as it was the Burgundian army she helped defeat. Also it's a nice colour.
Beauvais is the city she helped defend, which still celebrates her as a hero to this day. It is a hatchet thanks to the axe she used and her nickname "the Hatchet".
Motivation because, as the story goes, she charged a flagbearer of the Burgundian army which rekindled the spirits of the garrison turning the tide of battle.

Caitlin Danaan
- age: 21
- weapon: "Dagda" (projectile spear)
- semblance: "Prophecy" (foresight)
- appearance: tall and fit, pale skin, ginger hair, green eyes
- colour: green
- lore and inspiration:
She is based on Cethlenn who slew Dagda
Caitlin is a different form of the name Cethlenn. It is in turn derived from Catherine which might be based on Hecate, Greek goddess of magic. It is also a common name among queens and empresses (e.g. three of Henry VIII's wives)
Danaan after the Tuatha dé Danaan, the celtic pantheon
Dagda because it was him who Cethlenn slew with a projectile weapon.
Prophecy after Cethlenn's prophesies about the results of future battles

Side Characters:
Morgan Danaan
- age: 26
- weapon: Lorg Mór (warstaff)
- semblance: Trinity (splitting into three phantoms)
- appearance: taller and bustier than her sister, pale skin, ginger hair and yellow eyes
- colour: yellow
- lore and inspiration:
this character is inspired by Morrigan and celtic mythology in general
Morgan comes from Morrigan, the phantom queen and goddess of war and fate. This role is why it was her that helped Caitlin unlock her semblance. Mor means Nightmare in Old English and Scandinavian, while the rigan means queen in the same languages. Lilith is also described as "a monster in female form, that is, a morrigan" in some transcriptions of the bible.
Danaan is the same as with Caitlin
Lorg Mór is the staff of Dagda, Morrigan's husband
Trinity because Morrigan is a goddess made up of three women.
