Chapter 5 by The Night The Night

What will Defender do?

Sneak in

Defender decided it was best if she investigated Calvin discretely. She had a feeling he was aware she was on to him. The direct approach might lead to her walking into a trap. After returning to work as Rebecca Edwards, giving her report to Jones and clocking out for the day, Defender returned to her home. Specifically she entered into the secret room in her apartment which was her base of operations for her work as a Defender. Striping off her her cloths, she traded her star spangled out fit a black long sleeved leotard, matching black tights and boots. This was the outfit she used for stealth ops as her star spangled thong bikini tended to draw too much attention. She did still have to wear her red belt, otherwise she wouldn't have her powers. Once she was dressed, she hoped on a different motorcyle than your typical one. THis one was black and featured a silent engine. All set, she rode off into the night to investigate Calvin.

Defender had gotten Calvin's address from one of her contacts in the hall of records. She was surprised to find that Calvin owned a rather large section of land and a big house that was reletively isolated by the standards of San Andreas. Parking her bike a decent distance away from the property, Defender watched the house for signs of life. She saw lights at ground level, occasionally up top as well. Around midnight or so, the lights went out. After another hour or so of no activeity, Defender decided that Calvin had likely gone to bed and began her approach.

Making her way to the front door, Defender pressed a few buttons on her wrist device. This activated a EMP field that would prevent any alarms from going off. She then carefully picked the lock and entered the house. THe place was pitch black but during her time as a crime fighter, Defender had developed a decent night vison. It seemed like a pretty ordinary house, albeit a surprisingly nice one. Either Calvin was a bank robber or he was somehow made a good living.

The heroine approached the stairs and the faint sound of snoring up stairs. Calvin must have been fast asleep and she figured going up there might be a bad idea. She instead checked around the ground floor of the hourse. Looking in every draw and cubbered she came across. So far she had found nothing out of the ordinary. Eventually she came to a door that lead to the basement and decided to investigate further. Little did she know that someone had been watching Defender as she explored the house and carefully followed the heroine down the stairs.

Down in the basement, it again didn't seem to be anything extrodaroy. Just a man cave. Defender continued to look around and continued to come up empty handed. Defender was starting to think that maybe she was mistaken regarding Calvin's connection to the robbery. As she had these thoughts, she noticed her hair moving ever so slightly. Almost as if a little bit a wind was blow. She realized there was a draft coming from behind a juke box. Tapping around the machine, she discovered one of the buttons was a bit stickier than the others. She pushed it and the juke box slide out of the way, revealing the entry to a secret room.

The heroine stepped inside and couldn't help but smile at what she had found. It was a planning room full of computers, maps and blue prints to various banks around town. Most damningly, she found the outfits and masks that the robbers had been wearing. Defender knew this was all she needed. She tapped her wrist watch again so it would ping her location to Captian Hobbs. This was basically her signal for "Send lots of cops now" and she knew he'd realize she had found something since she was at Calvin's house.

As Defender started looking at the evidence on the table however, the figure from before had crept up behind her, a club in hand. With a heavy swing, he brought the blackjack down on the heroine's head. Of course though, her belt protected her from the impact and tipped the heroine off that someone had snuck up on her. She instantly whirled around and caught her would be attacker with her elbow. The attacker crumbled to the floor and Defender was shocked to find that it was Calvin. She cocked a smile. "Thought you could get the drop on me couldn't you?" "As a matter of fact, I do." Defender looked up and what she saw was shocking.

Coming down the the stairs, she saw Calvin. She looked back at her attacker then back at Calvin and realized they where the same person. Calvin, obviously seeing her confusion snickered as his double suddenly disappeared. It was then that Defender realized what was happening. "Oh boy." She uttered as more clones of Calvin started appearing out of thin air. Several of them ran towards the heroine who took a fighting stance and started battling them. They punched and kicked which of course did nothing and with her powers augmenting her strengths, she could handle the clones. However, they very slowly grew in numbers. Before long, they had all dog piled her and pinned her to the floor. Though her belt kept her from be crushed by the weight of all the clones holding her down, she wasn't strong enough to throw them off.

They eventually pulled the heroine to her feet at which point she was held in place by four men as the others looked on. The all vanished into thin air as one last Calvin looked on as the Heroine squirmed the the grasp of his clones. "I thought I had a cat burgler but if I'm not mistaken, the lovely Defender has decided to pay me a visit. I must say, you look really good in that outfit but I do prefer that swim suit you usually wear. "Let go of me Calvin." Calvin laughed. "You don't seriously expect me to do that do you?" One of the clones then copped a feel which caused the heroine to squim more. "In fact, I kind of like having you in my arms." "You fiend. So it was all you during those robberies." "Exactly Tits. I didn't think you you'd figure it out yet here you are."

"So are we." Calvin turned around to find himself being tasered by Captain Hobbs. Strangely enough, this caused all the clones to crumble to the floor as if they had been shocked. Even Hobbs seemed shocked. "What exactly happened there?" Defender looked down at the clone. "One of the clones saw me come in, they must share a nerulogical link." Hobbs gave her her typical deadpan look. "They feel what he feels. " "Ah." Hobbs says. As Hobbs men detained Calvin and his clones, Defender went over the evidence she had found. "So he had a team of clones enter the bank as robbers and then entered himself as an extra set of eyes and ears? That certainly explains the sixth sense they had." "You have to give him credit, it was clever system. We probably wouldn't have figured it out he hadn't slipped up today." "Agreed. Well this should help us put him away for good, though it's probably for the best that I leave you out of my report. Judging by your attire, I assume you decided to commit a BNE." Defender feigned ignorance. "Who me, I'm not Defender, I'm just a catburgler." Hobbs lips twitched a little bit. The closest thing to a smile from him. "See you Captain." She said as she left. Satisfyed that another crimenal had been brought to justice.
