Chapter 39 by tailteller

Date night?

Skipping forward

Two days, as promised. James finished setting up a quick security system that would notify him of any odd activity. As a plus, it would automatically lock his doors, and keep them that way without his phone unlocking them.

Aurora had kept almost entirely to herself the last couple of days. He didn't have to wonder why. She always looked embarrassed and wouldn't look him in the eye whenever she was around. Even if she needed help. She'd picked up almost no English in that time, either. Enough to ask for food, really.

Almost 6, so he had to go. He took a moment in the guest bathroom, double checking his black polo, matching pants, and his hair for any dust. His stomach felt like it was doing loops. A few deep breaths, and he was good to go. He turned to see Aurora staring at him. Their eyes met. She flickered yellow, glancing at the sensors and gizmos he'd been attaching to the walls. He shuffled around, trying to find the blue card, before he remembered it on his desk. She followed him until she saw it. Just in case, he'd walked her around and showed her the red card at the two doors that lead outside, and all of the windows.

When she flickered red, and then shimmered white, he decided she probably got the message. No leaving, no being seen. She sat herself in the tub with his tablet as he was on his way out. He took the blue card with. Just in case she freaked out when he got back.
