Do you sit through Amy and Jacob flirting or try to win Jessica over with your confidence and calm ness?
Sit through Amy and Jacob flirting
You found a plush armchair, sinking into it as if it could swallow you whole. Jessica sat on the sofa opposite you, cross-legged, her green eyes watching you with an unreadable curiosity. But your attention was snared, pulled taut, by the scene unfolding before you.
Jacob didn't sit. He circled Amy slowly, like a shark. "That's a beautiful dress," he said, his voice a low murmur. "A shame if something were to... happen to it."
Amy laughed, a light, musical sound that was nothing like her laughter from earlier. This was practiced. Performative. "It's pretty sturdy," she replied, her head tilted up to follow his movement. "But I suppose everything has its breaking point."
He stopped behind her, his large hands coming to rest on her bare shoulders. His thumbs stroked the delicate silver chain at her back. You watched, mesmerized and horrified, as a visible shiver ran down Amy's spine. Her eyes fluttered closed for a second.
"I've been thinking about this," Jacob continued, his voice dropping even lower, meant only for her but loud enough to murder you where you sat. "Since Jessica told me about your... arrangement. I've been picturing this. This hair." He reached out, letting a strand of her red hair slide through his fingers. "This skin."
Your heart hammered against your ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage of bone. You glanced at Jessica. She was still watching you, but a small, knowing smile played on her lips. She raised an eyebrow, as if to say, Well? Are you just going to sit there?
Your eyes darted back to Amy and Jacob. He had leaned in, his lips now brushing against her ear. You couldn't hear the words, but you saw her reaction. Her lips parted, a soft gasp escaping them. Her hands, which had been holding her clutch, now gripped it so tightly her knuckles were white.
