Sit down and wait

You, and Abbie sit down next to Paula and officer Reno, while G leaves to get Sophie and Rita finishes the meal. It already smells delicious when G comes back. Well, compared to prison food you are sure everything would smell delicious. G immediately sits down next to Abbie and directly opposite to you. For a moment, you wonder where Sophie is, but then she enters.

In the first moment you are not sure if you should be shocked or just look away. Sophie is a girl in her early twentieth and she in fact looks not bad. But almost her entire body is full of tattoos, piercings and some scars. She wears some clothes that are barely more than a bikini. Her jeans shorts are basically a belt with a few centimeters of fabric below and a few stripes of dental floss would cover as much skin as her belly free tank top.

“Sophie, great you came,” Rita says and puts the first pot on the table, “would you like to introduce yourself to your new roommate?”

Sophie ignores her and looks around. Her eyes stop for a moment at you and you think she looked interested for a second, but since she just sits down next to Abbie and speaks not a word you assume you weren’t interesting enough. Officer Reno seems unpleased by her behavior, or maybe by the smell of her smoked cigarettes, and gives her a sharp, disappointed look, which she ignores as well.

Rita seems a little sad and finishes serving the food. It deems really good. Mixed salad, a steak for everyone (except G), noodles and tomato sauce with different vegetables. Abbie, Paula and G immediately thank Rita for the meal and take some food on their plates. Officer Reno and you, who are not used to the rituals thank her a moment later too. Only Sophie seems to not care.

“Well, girls, tomorrow is Sunday,” Rita says to break silence when everyone has a full plate, "Abbie, Paula, I assume you will come with me to church in the morning like always. What about the others? G, are you with us?"

“Thanks, Rita, but I want to finish the work on the vegetable patch, I couldn’t do today,” G answers, “and you know, I’m not that religious.”

“Mom, I’m afraid I can’t come with you too,” Paula adds a little uncomfortable, “Elaine invited me. Her husband wants to fry. I think I told you before.”

“Oh, right, dear,” Rita says a little embarrassed, “I forgot. Say her hello from me, please. What about you, Sophie? And Max, are you religious and want to come with me and Abbie?”

“In your dreams,” Sophie mumbles quiet and you hear her voice is a little raw, “fuck god and his shitty angels. I take the other guy.”

“Sophie!” officer Reno yells sharp, “control yourself! One more word and you see your cellmates again!”

“Please calm down,” Rita says immediately, “both of you, please. There is no need to argue.”

You are the last one who hasn’t told what to do tomorrow. On the one hand, this would be your first free day since your imprisonment and spending it praying sounds rather boring. On the other hand, you would have the chance to spend some time with Abbie without the other girls interfering. But same goes for G and Sophie.
