Sissy sobbing on the bed

You peak in the door with a slight tapping rap at the door as you gently push it open. You see Sissy, you're step sister scrambling to look busy on her bed wiping what appear to be tears away from her eyes as she tries to gain composure.

"Is this a bad time?" you ask slightly caring for her. Sissy's real name is Laura, but you've always heard your wife call her Sissy and the two of you have always had a nervous tension between each other, both very competitive, both too proud to ever be humbled in the other's presence, but you could tell something was wrong with her and felt like it was best if you got this little temporary sleep over off to a good start by at least attempting to be there for her.

"Uhh... Ummm... Nothing, just got some dust in my eyes is all." she stammers packing and unpacking the same set of clothing from her suitcase.

"Are you sure?" you say stepping into the room as she turns her back to you attempting to look focused on the luggage laying on the end of the bed.

She pauses for a second, almost starts to say something, but just shakes her head and turns back to her nervous fidgetting. Not sure if you should push the issue you place a hand on her shoulder, "Well if you need someone to talk to I am sure there is someone better than me, but I can listen if you need that." you say giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze. About the time you resign yourself to releasing your grip on her shoulder and walking away to leave her alone her shaky hand reaches up and holds yours to her shoulder, gently carressing it for a silent moment.

"Thank you Jack." she manages, once again on the verge of breakdown. And just as quickly she releases your hand, allowing you to leave now.

You aren't really sure what is up with her, and you don't see Bailey around so you just assume they are having problems already, but who are you to pry.
