Chapter 3 by Sapphire Sapphire

Time to get ready.

Shower and makeup.

On most days Andrew was awake before you, but today you beat him to it. He probably won't mind, though. You're no stereotype—from opening the door of the bathroom to closing it again as you leave, wrapped in a towel and decorated for the day, it takes you no longer than fifteen minutes. Andrew is already awake by the time you're out. Some part of you had hoped that he'd be a little more animated this morning, maybe make some flirtatious comment about your state of dress, but instead he just sits up from bed and stumbles past you in his boxers. Oh well, maybe another day.

You strip off your towel as you hear the shower turn back on, your body now mostly dry, spare a little dampness in your hair. You like to keep your amber locks loose and freely styled, and it's a warm spring day outside, so you didn't bother to blow dry. Opening the shelf on your side of the bed, you get dressed, stepping into a pair of simple white panties and donning a comfortable bra. You used to like wearing cuter underwear, even some lingerie sometimes, but lately you haven't really bothered—it's been too busy at work for sexy bed-wear to ever serve a purpose. After your work clothes are on, a skirt and blouse, you take a minute to fix your hair a tad, idly brushing it while you check your phone for the morning.

Before long Andrew joins you, naked but for a towel, which he quickly discards to get dressed. You sneak a glance at him in the intervening moments, smirking invisibly: you have yourself a handsome man, even if you don't get to make use of him much these days. He dresses more quickly than you did, getting into his usual work garb, blue jeans and a shirt branded with the logo of his company. The two of you have gotten into the habit of sharing a kiss with each other right before you leave for work: your last regular daily incident of affection. Today, though, you're denied even that.

"Gotta go to a client's place, other side of the city," Andrew begins, walking straight past you. He has the decency to at least blow you an air kiss as he opens the door to leave. "Have a good day."

And with that, he's gone. You would've preferred to feel his lips against you, but I guess the gesture was slightly better than nothing.

Ever-so-slightly.
