The first thing that Venus felt when she woke up was pain. Not piercing or terrible by any stretch, but a dull ache all over her body. "Rondo brought me here? You mean he came to the village?"

"Yes he came. He's with his mother now. She woke up to see him but they are both resting now. He fell asleep in his chair beside her."

Rondo's father lit the pipe and took a puff before continuing.

"When I saw you in his arms like that I thought you were dead. Almost didn't see that content smile on your face. Mind tell me what happened?"

Venus felt herself blush but laid out the events that had led to Rondo bringing her back. Rondo's father, who introduced himself as Wesley, listened patiently and asked questions from time to time. He hadn't known about werewolves having two souls or personalities. Venus hadn't known about that either, since Rondo was the first wolf she had met or heard of that had his kind of control. When she neared the end of the story, she paused for a moment to consider, but decided to tell Wesley anyway.

"I think I'm his wife now. Well, mate in wolf terms."

Wesley's eyes narrowed and he looked her up and down.

"What do you mean? Yes, you had sex with my son, but surely that can't be as binding as you being his "mate" right?"

She shook her head and tried to fight back another blush.

"I asked for it. He offered, but in the end I begged for it and he made it clear he was claiming me."

Wesley gave a soft chuckle and closed his eyes as he took another puff from his pipe.

"So I hire a hunter to bring my son home and end up with a daughter? If it brings Rondo peace then I have no reason to be upset."

Wesley suddenly seemed more relaxed to Venus and she realized he had been worried she might still hurt his son. Now that he knew she was his son's mate, that made things simpler.

"Venus, what will you do now? Will you take my son with you when you leave? Or will you remain here, either in the village or the forest?"

She could see the pain in Wesley's eyes at the thought of his son going away again, but in the end he would let Rondo do as he pleased. At the moment everything rested on her decision.
