Chapter 7
by futonghost
How does the elf girl respond?
She seems to understand
The elf girl remained in her stance, but looked to the tree then to him. She spoke in an odd language and motioned for him to move back. He did so slowly as she quickly grabbed his coat and went back under the tree. For a moment he stood there wondering what was going to happen, and then he remembered the carcass and went back for it and then returned.
He was surprised to find the elf girl coming back out from the burrow with a look of confusion. He then tossed the carcass to the ground and much to his surprised she took the knife and quickly began cutting prime pieces of meat and fat. Then she looked to him and quickly pointed to the weapons he had dropped earlier and ran back into the burrow with the meat.
Confused by the elf girl's behavior he grabbed the axes and went back to the burrow. The elf girl popped her hand out and offered the knife back to him. Instead of taking it though he pushed her hand back under the tree and soon found it slightly larger than before. There was even a small fire in the center where small strips of meat were suspended by stiffened pieces of bark.
Before he could comprehend what he was seeing, the elf girl had pushed him to the other side of the tree. As soon as his rear met the ground the elf girl began to rant in her unknown language and seemed to chide him several times. Then she looked at him and seemingly asked a question. Silence passed and she repeated her question, this time gesturing to him.
"I don't understand you." He said, confused by her behavior and sudden vitality.
Then she pointed to herself and spoke what sounded like a name. "Alkaninea Quvoghst Bragtin."
"Alkaninea Q..." He tried to repeat it.
"Alka." The girl said simply as she smiled and gestured to him.
Now he understood, she wanted his name. He thought for a second, his name not only had no meaning here and he was now living what was essentially a new life. "My name doesn't matter, it's from another weary life..."
She smacked him across the face and seemingly chided him yet again, her words shaming him even though he didn't know them.
"You can call me Fawl." He pointed to himself.
"Fawl." She repeated and then smiled as she offered him a strip of meat.
He found himself smiling as he took the meat and sat back against the inside of the tree. They stayed within the burrow the whole day and when the sun set he was amazed to see the girl whisper something into the fire to have it move to her spot as she joined him on the other side with his coat now being spread around them both. His confusion must have been obvious as she had to explain that the cold would be too much for either one to bear by themselves. That's when she took off her dress and used it as a sleeping mat.
