Chapter 13 by TheArchitect TheArchitect

Jen has to make a choice.

She searches for a key that would fit the keyhole on her blindfold.

"One of these keys may be the one that lets me see again! If there's a slightest chance, I have to try them all."

"We did not even get dressed properly to make this an exciting reveal! Where is this excitement coming from?"

Jen took one out of the pile, got her hair out of the way and then pushed the key inside the keyhole on the steel band that was keeping her blind. It went in a little bit, but that was all the girl could achieve.

"Uff" — she dropped the key, letting it ring loudly against white tiles, and picked up another one. It was too big to get in the hole. The girl was determined to check each one of them, so the metal items were getting pulled out of the pile with increasing speed.

One of the keys was heavier than the others, and it was seemingly shapeless if judged by its handle, but Jen put it into the hole anyway. It slid inside like knife into butter and started making loud hissing sounds and ejecting warm steam. A strong chemical smell also appeared, and all of this together made the girl freeze from the surprise effect and grim suspicions that swarmed her brain.

Once the hissing stopped, Jen reached to the handle of this weird key, but it fell off and down to the floor with a dull sound, so her hand went to the keyhole instead.

But it was not there anymore at all. Her fingers were trembling as she led them through the whole steel band. Only smooth metal. Jen heard her heart starting to pound audibly, and her breath quickened as she struggled to understand what just happened.

She did not want to say it, even though she felt like doing it. Instead, she crouched and picked up the handle of the strange item that lied in the company of keys while being something... entirely different. There was a short band attached to it.

"I'm sure there's something written on it, but I can't... I can't..."

Jen broke down in tears. She tried to tear the blindfold off her eyes, but failed just like she did back in the bedroom. The device was designed to be irremovable unless unlocked, and now there was no way to unlock it. The girl tried to rip the loop of steel out of the leather part, but discovered that the steel continued between the inner and outer layers of leather, forming a solid piece. That meant finding something sharp to cut it through was not a solution.

As Jen cried, she felt the tears slowly filling her blindfold.

"Stop crying, sweetheart." — the second voice whispered. — "Just like your 'reasonable decisions', it won't get you anywhere, just drown you in tears. Why don't you listen to your heart? Your senses? Your feelings? Your me."

"What do you suggest?" — Jen asked {if Insanity < 80}suspiciously. She was not sure if believing it without thinking was going to be a good idea.{else}with genuine interest. It was true, her rational thinking led her into this breakdown, so a different approach was welcome.{endif}

"This blindfold. Isn't it made of highest-quality materials? You've seen it. It looks marvelous. Don't you also think your booties are great? Yes, your feet do ache from the strain, but you can imagine how long and sexy do your legs look now. The conclusion is: why not trust this mall's products? They are the best. If we are expected to wear it, why not? Put aside any hesitations. The mall rows are all yours."

What to do now?
