She pulls back

You had hoped Doe would melt in your arms. That she would accept you as her protector and be with you. Instead she pulls herself away from you and asks, “The fuck are you doing?”

“I …” You start trying to explain yourself. But Doe interrupts you with an accusation and says, “Are you trying to have your way with me?”

You quickly respond by saying, “No. I am not going to **** you to anything.”

“Then what are you here for?” The captain asks.

You take a deep breath, but again Doe interrupts you.

“Oh my god. You’re not going to say you have fallen in love with me, are you?”

You smirk and say, “See, that’s what I am talking about. You’re smart, quick to realize what’s going on. As a fellow intelligent person, I appreciate that in you.”

“You can’t be serious.” Doe says as she rolls her eyes. “We are enemies. We’re supposed to fight each other, not love one another.”

“Not anymore.” You say. “The war is over. We are both members of the same country now. That means, as soon as you swear fealty to my king, you can be a captain again.”

“In your fleet I presume?” She quips. “Unless those ruffians outside hunt me down and kill me despite my oath of fealty.”

“That is why I’m keeping you in prison.” You tell the captain. Once the discrimination has died down it’ll be safe for you to leave. Though by that time, I would hope I have convinced you to at least give me a chance.”

Doe gives you a side glance, then rolls her eyes again and sighs, but doesn’t say anything. You consider that a good sign. She’s at least thinking about it. Then she notices the dice still lying on the floor. She walks over to them and picks them up. Then she looks at you and says, “If I win, you will set me free so I can swear fealty to your king.”

“Too dangerous.” You say. “Those at court who support going after former combatants would immediately let their henchmen know and you will be hunted down, likely assassinated. I will not stupid prejudice cause a person with your skills be wasted.”

Doe thinks again then says, “After swearing fealty to your king I shall return to your mansion. Except instead of keeping me prisoner in this cell, you will keep me imprisoned in your estate. Certainly, anyone would think twice before assassinating someone under the protection of the Demon Admiral.”

It sounds like a good enough proposal. She’d still be around for you to keep an eye on and possibly try your charms on and attempt to seduce her. But you could get more out of this.

“You will be moved to my mansion regardless.” You say. “But if I win, instead of swearing fealty to my king right now, you shall wait a few months. In the meantime, you will let me have a chance with you.”

“I thought you said you weren’t going to **** yourself on me?” Doe smirks.

“I’m not.” You reply. “All I want is a chance to woo you.”

Your prisoner stares at you for a few seconds, then she throws the dice. They land on an 8. Pretty bad odds for you. 7 chances you lose, only 4 you’ll win. Regardless, the bet has already been made. Now you have to see it through. You pick up the dice and roll.
