Chapter 20 by reaper13

Are you and Talith last to the refectory?

Miryam shows up in time with you.

As John and Talith are getting close to the refectory, they hear someone’s footsteps closing in on them. You turn around and see it’s Miryam who is in a hurry.
“What’s it, Miryam? Are you hungry?” You joke.
When Miryam gets to them she first takes a few breaths, then says, “Actually … yes … I am.”
Talith takes a step closer to Miryam, leans out with her head and sniffs a few times.
“Ooh, looks like somebody had a good time.” Talith grins.
“Uh, what, I … no I didn’t.” Miryam stutters embarrassedly, fearing Talith just found out everything.
“Aah. Still shy about it, huh?” Talith says. “No worries. It’ll be our little secret.”
Then Talith winks at Miryam and comes back to your side.
“Well then. Let’s go and have dinner.” You say and continue on. Flanked on the left by a horned former nun and on the right by a succubus cosplaying like a nun, you enter the refectory.

When you open the doors, you see the other three nuns are already waiting for you. When Siara sees the two horned women flanking you her eyes flare up.
She angrily stands up and says loudly, “What is the meaning of this?!”
“The meaning of what?” You ask innocently.
Siara starts walking towards you and says, “This!” While pointing at Talith.
“How dare you dress up your demon sluts in clothing similar to ours!” Siara continues. “Our uniforms carry a sacred symbolism of inhibition and restraint. They do not belong on a woman of low …”
But when Siara comes to stand in front of Miryam she suddenly stops.
“Miryam?” Siara asks, barely able to believe her eyes. “What happened to you?”
“Abbes.” Miryam replies politely. “I have something important to tell you.”

As Miryam tells Siara and the other sisters her story, the lot of you take place at the table. Imp servants in the meanwhile bring several plates of food. For the nuns it is vegetarian food again, like it was at noon. For you, Talith and Miryam, it is steak with French fries and beer.
Miryam tells her friends about her controlling parents. How she was **** into this nunnery. That being a nun is something she had never chosen for herself. That her future lay elsewhere and that she asked you to take her in which resulted in her growing these fancy horns. She does not however explain to them the ritual that you performed on her to cause her to develop these horns.
“I’m sorry, Miryam.” Siara calmly apologizes. “I was told this is what you’ve always wanted out of life. That being a nun was your calling. Had I known your parents had lied to me, I would have helped you start a new life.”
“Yes, well. Sorry for bringing this on you so suddenly.” Miryam says, offering an apology of her own.
“Of course, you do know you’ll have to give up on that habit, right?” Siara explains as she takes a glass of water to sip from.
“Not right now, I hope. I mean, I can’t exactly prance around this place in the nude, right?” Miryam jokes.
Siara nearly sputters water all over the table when she hears Miryam’s joke.
“Very well. You may keep your habit until you find some more appropriate clothing.”

Throughout their conversation you have been silently keeping an eye on everyone. Miryam was respectful and relaxed while she explained why she chose to quit being a nun. Siara for her part listened attentively to Miryam and showed she was very understanding. Angelica quietly ate her food while she followed Miryam and Siara’s conversation. Jennifer, on the other hand, was constantly scowling. It is obvious something was bothering her. Was it the food? Talith’s presence? Miryam quitting their convent? Or Miryam’s new demonic look? You didn’t have to wonder long, though.

With Siara and Miryam having seemingly made up, Jennifer speaks up and says, “You’re joking, right?”
Before Siara can respond, Jennifer continues and says, “She’s a demon now. She’s one of ‘them’. You should kick her out.”
“She can’t.” You quickly interfere, drawing everyone’s attention to you. “You might have forgotten it, but I have taken control of this building. It will become my new home. After renovations are done, of course. Meaning the decision on who stays and who leaves now falls to me. Not to Siara.”
At first Jennifer doesn’t quite know what to say.
Then she shifts the topic to Talith and says, “Well, what about that pink slut of yours then. She’s wearing a mockery of our uniform.”
“I agree with Jennifer on this.” Siara says. “Talith should not be insulting us in such a way.”
“I’m just wearing this so I could learn more about you.” Talith replies. “I tend to wear clothes that are a lot more revealing. So, I was hoping wearing something like this might help me better understand the reasoning behind covering yourselves up.”
Having known Talith for as long as you have, you are convinced that is a lie. She’s just wearing it so she can play the role of a slutty nun.
“If you wish to learn more about our religion, all you need to do is ask.” Angelica says, her first words since you entered the refectory. “As a matter of fact, I would love to teach you as much about scripture as I can. I’m sure the same goes for Siara as well.”
Siara ponders for a moment, then says, “I guess, if Talith chooses to join our order as a novice we could permit her to wear a habit.”
“Do you even hear what you are saying?” Jennifer asks Siara. “She’s a demon. A succubus no less. I bet she won’t even be able to remain chaste for half a day. There’s no way you can let her join us.”
“It is the lord’s wish that we give everyone a chance.” Angelica says. “It says so in scripture. We should respect his wishes and allow Talith a chance to change her life for the better.”

After having been shown her place like that, Jennifer sighs and is back to being quiet again. Now at least you know the issues Jennifer is having is with demons in general. But why does she take such offence at Talith and Miryam’s new attributes? Do the hostilities of the war still affect her? It would be very understandable so early after the war. Or does her wrath towards demons run deeper than that? Is it perhaps pride that makes her denounce Miryam? Or is it fear? You are narrowing your methods on how to break Jennifer’s resolve, but you still need more information before you make your move.
Angelica instead seems the most interested in talking about her beliefs and get others to join her side. This of course could be a double-edged sword. You and Talith could pretend to want to be educated by her only so you can then fill her mind with doubts about her religion. That said, if she’s as good with words as she is beautiful, she might actually convert Talith and turn your beloved succubus into a celibate. You’ll have to be careful when dealing with this half-angel.
Then there is Siara. From her initial reaction towards Talith upon entering the refectory earlier, she seems protective of her religion. But other than that, you find few flaws about her. She has been a nun for longer than any of the others, so she may well be the hardest one to crack. For now, you are better off biding your time and wait until she shows her flaws.

After dinner Siara, Jennifer and Angelica headed for the chapel for their evening prayers. Miryam, not being a nun any more, chose to skip. But since she then had nothing to do, she decided to help the imp maids and butlers cleaning up.
Before the nuns leave, you notice Angelica and Miryam whispering to each other. You can’t tell what they’re talking about, they are too far from you to hear. Though you assume Angelica is worried about Miryam telling you her secret about being a Nephilim. Even though it is a mere assumption of yours, Angelica trying to keep her secret hidden brings a smile to your face.
After the nuns have left, you and Talith return to planning decorations across the rest of the abbey. By the time you are done, it is late and you are tired. You and Talith each decide to return to your rooms. You quickly remind Talith to pass on the orders to decorate to the imps before she goes to bed. The succubus nods and then heads off. A few minutes later you lie down in your bed and fall asleep. You can’t wait to see what excitement tomorrow will bring.

How do the nuns react to the new decorations?
