Chapter 12 by bsnick bsnick

Does the proprietor of Skinprint Art rescue her and treat her well?

She has the money they left her, so the proprietors are happy to 'help'

"I'm coming, hold on!" a voice called from within Skinprint Art. No one outside the door heard the voice, and by the time the locks were undone it had added, "Customers should come around the front!"

An extremely pierced and tattooed face poked out the door, looking left and right in annoyance before notice the lump at its feet.

"What the hell are you doin' down there?" it hollered, rock concerts having ruined the man's hearing.

"Yo, Jeb! Get in here!"

Another voice grumbled something from beyond a filthy bedspread that was hung between the front and back room.

"I'm finishing up a customer," Jeb called back.

"Jeb!" the man called again, not hearing.

Jeb grumbled as he parted the curtains, accustomed to not being heard.

"I had to finish my customer!" he yelled in Jeb's ear, making the man jump.

"Don't you go sneaking up on me, Jeb!" the man hollered, and Jeb's gaunt face grinned.

"Get a hearing aid, Joe, and I won't be able to!" he yelled back.

The two men, twins, glared at each other for a moment before turning to the girl at their feet.

Jeb whistled, seeing the marks all over her body.

"You calling the cops?" he asked, putting his mouth close to his brother's ear.

Joe shook his head. "She's got money."

"So?" Jeb asked, kneeling by the girl, using the back of a fingernail to turn the note so he could read it. With his prints on record he didn't want to risk touching anything just yet.

"What's it say?" Joe yelled, making Jeb jump. He should be used to his brother's hearing problems by now, but somehow he kept forgetting. Maybe because while his brother was busy losing his hearing by screaming and wailing in 'bands' Jeb was in and out of relatively quiet prisons.

"It says, 'Make them permanent'" he yelled back at his brother. When Joe didn't respond he looked up.

"That's a lot," Joe said in a nearly normal tone of voice.

Jeb shrugged. "What do you think? We are having a sale," he said, referring to the 'buy one get one free' deal they'd been putting on in hopes of drumming up business.

"Well, the piercings are easy enough," Joe said. "I mean, the holes are there. It's the other stuff that you'd be doing that'd take time."

Joe, being the pin-cushion, was the brother that dealt with piercing people, whereas Joe, with his extensive prison-time, was the tattoo artist.

"They're not complicated. Probably won't take a long time."

"Great! Let's get to work!" Joe exclaimed, smacking his brother's shoulder.

Jeb sighed, sensing another stretch of prison-time, but helped Joe drag the girl to the chair. It was going to be a long night, he thought.

Does Amanda wake up while there?
