Chapter 5

What goes wrong?

Game starts now!

Immediately Jenny's phone started to buzz. She tapped the power button only to see a barrage of notifications, and a phone call. Laura had apparently decided to do a bit of bantering. Well she could take it, Jenny decided holding the phone up to her ear and saying in a quite impressively level tone, "Hi Laura".

"Hi Jenny," the voice was mocking. This took Jenny aback for a second, but she soldiered on. She knew Laura was a bitch. It wasn't anything new.

"I'm kind of busy here, I need to get going before the Hunt starts."

There was definitely a mocking tone in Laura's voice now, Jenny felt like she could even hear a bit of a giggle, as Laura answered, "Yea I know, I can see you squirming."

Jenny glanced up and indeed there was a small quadcopter hover outside. She couldn't help blushing. "Well why won't you shut up then!" Jenny knew why Laura had said it, that bitch wanted to get her mad, make her make some kind of silly mistake, but yelling felt good. It helped her vent some of her anxiety.

"I just _had _to be the one to tell you," Laura continued in that infuriatingly slow laughing lilt.

"Tell me what?" Jenny asked with an exasperated sigh. This was taking too long. She should just hang up.

"I wouldn't worry about the Hunt starting, its already started," Laura announced. Jenny started to say something, some kind of vicious come back, but somehow nothing came to mind. Instead Jenny was left with her mouth hanging open as Laura continued. "Been going since the moment you slipped that collar into tin foil. You thought you were so smart."

Jenny started to yell something into the receiver, but her string of curses and slurs were only met by a click as the Laura hung up.

This was bad, really bad, Jenny realized as she glanced at some of the other messages. The game was indeed on. Laura hadn't been the only one to tell her that though the others had had the good grace to do it via text.

Lilly: You really shouldn't have done that

Bill: There's a crowd gathering by the entrance, no one's gotten the courage to find a way in yet, but I'd get a move on it.

Kate: Wops, Jenny, I'm so sorry

Her mother's was the worst, it was just two words. "Have fun". Did she think she'd done this one purpose, actually probably she did. It wasn't like she'd been silent to her mother about her lack of action recently in the boys department.

What now?
