Chapter 66 by dearnise dearnise

What's next?

Shannon schedules your next major photo sessions after you put up some of the photos taken earlier.

Later that day, Shannon--back to her normal, secretary self--watches you work on putting up some of your own photos of Mia in her "Holiday Harley Quinn" cosplay taken before Jimmy took his share, as well as some of the photos you took of her in her Black Widow cosplay afterwards. As you do that, she goes over the photo description of her first ever cosplay, as well as similar descriptions of the same photos for the social media pages. At first, she looks nervous, wondering how people will react to those photos. Then she remembers the time you shared the photos of Mia in her early years of cosplaying. Years ago, when Mia was just in her college years, she was your simple, average nerd, wearing simple costumes that were pre-made, or homemade from stuff found in storage bins. Therefore, Shannon knows that the road to bigger things in cosplay starts with that first set of steps.

"Making her cosplay debut here at 'Lionheart Images' is Shannon LaVeaux." Shannon reads the photo description on the company's FB page. "Some of you may recognize her as our lovely secretary, that works the front desk, here at our studio. Now, after some mentoring from rising cosplay superstar Mia Rocha, and undertaking a diet & fitness program to help her look & feel better, Shannon is ready to show you what she can do in the cosplay culture. Here she is, posing as one of her favorite comic characters, Black Widow."

"What do you think, Shannon?" You ask her.

"I say it's a good start." Shannon tells you. "A part of me wants to pout that I don't look so hot in that costume--no offense intended, but then I remember how other cosplayers, like Mia, got their own start."

"Mia didn't cosplay as frequently as she does today." You tell her. "She stuck with local comic cons while she was still in college. During that time, she was still that average woman you saw in the early photos, slowly & steadily making new friends in the cosplay culture. One woman came along, when she was still using her simple costumes that fit around her average body, and helped her find places in her cosplay, and body shape, where she could improve."

"Who was that woman?" Shannon asks you.

"That woman, Shannon," you tell her truthfully, "was 'Neko-Sana'."

"Really?" Shannon asks you.

"Yes, really." You tell her. "Neko essentially got her started in crafting her own costumes, and ways to help her stand out from others. This was when the economy was still at a snail's pace, so she wasn't able to land a job in the clothing industry, to fund her cosplay needs, and she didn't had the body at the time, to be a model. So she turned to exotic dancing, and she bounced around from one club to another, while starting her own diet & fitness program. You've seen the progress & evolution of her cosplay, right?"

"Yes," Shannon replies, "I've noticed."

"Her body responded in a way that allowed her to rise through the ranks, from a sideshow journey-woman, to settling down at 'Silken Web', eventually becoming their headliner." You tell her. "As you've seen, it also had a major impact on her cosplay, as well. Combine her sculpted body, with the improvements she made in her costume crafting, and her creative mind, and we both know the results."

"Is that why you adore Neko so much?" Shannon asks you. "It's because of how she led Mia on the path she is in now, that makes you grow fond of the woman from Hong Kong, right?"

"In essence, Shannon," you tell her, "you're correct."

"Well, from what Mia told me, Alex," she tells you, "your own creativity in your photography, & graphic designing has also helped her in her cosplay. After all, you did design her cosplay logo. (Pause) And speaking of cosplay, I've finalized the details for the field work with members of the Hollywood Cosplay Guild for next weekend."

"Oh, you did, Shannon?" You ask her, looking at the itinerary for the session. "Well done!"

"Thank you, Alex." She tells you. "Two-night stay at the hotel on Hollywood & Highland, field session at Griffith Park on Saturday, and Sunday at the guild's in-house studio. As for the two ladies you'll work with, that will be: Trinity Troy, & Jessie O'Hara."

"Trinity & Jessie?" You tell Shannon. "That will be very interesting, indeed."

"I've also finalized your session for the weekend after that." Shannon tells you next. "That one that you're planning to do for...'Dream Rides' Magazine?"

"Yeah, two models, that model alongside various customized cars." You tell her. "I believe that is the one that I'll be doing in the Santa Barbara area, with Brianna & Anastasia."

"Brianna Torres & Anastasia Ivanovich?" You ask Shannon.

"Yep," Shannon tells you, "that's them. After that, it's the holidays for everyone, until the Tuesday following MLK Day."

"Exactly." You tell her. "Does the rest of the crew have their assignments?"

"Yep, they do." She tells you. "Everyone should be done by Christmas."
