Settling in and eating

Ritter and Jake take Charlie to get medical treatment while you show Cassie around the makeshift shelter.

You all settle in and eat the warm meal provided by the survivors. The food is simple but filling - canned beans, instant rice, and rehydrated vegetables. However,

it tastes like a feast after days of scavenging and surviving on scraps.

Cassie introduces herself to the group between bites. She explains how you and Ritter saved her from the zombie horde and took her in. The others listen with interest, glad to have a new face join their small community. She seems impressed by how everyone pitches in and looks after each other.

"It's not much, but we make it work," you tell her.

You bring Cassie to where she will sleep - a small alcove with blankets and pillows gathered from the department stores upstairs.

"It's perfect, thank you," she says. Cassie turns to you, her eyes lingering. The memory of your passionate encounter hangs in the air between you. Unable to resist, you both lean in for a tender kiss.

"I'm glad you're here with me," you whisper. She smiles and squeezes your hand before you leave her to rest.

You feel a sense of hope having found new survivors and supplies. The future seems less bleak with this small community banding together, caring for each other. You know there will still be challenges ahead, but for now, you are grateful for this moment of peace.
