Chapter 40 by skrelm skrelm

What does Jimmy mean by 'charity work'?

Serving at a homeless shelter

Lara contributed to several charity projects. Everything from preserving the rainforest, to building schools and hospitals in the poorest regions of Africa. And also projects to make life easier for the less fortunate men and women in Britain.

The St. Andrews' Homeless Shelter was one of these charities. Lara was the main contributor to the honorable establishment that fed and gave homeless people a place to rest between their hardships out on the streets.

Lara recognized the building when they stopped outside. She had been there several times to visit and help. Up until now, she had been occupied by the constant badly concealed groping from the two boys on each side in the back seat. In fact it had made her slightly aroused.

"What are we doing here?" Lara asked.

"You'll find out," Jimmy said, "Now let's get out of the car."

Lara stood on the sidewalk and adjusted her skimpy outfit in the cold London night. The street was thankfully almost empty. She only attracted a few leering gazes from people. Jimmy and the two other boys had gotten three bags from the trunk.

Together they walked into the building, Lara was struggling to balance on her high heels.

"Just play along at what we say," Jimmy told the nervous adventuress.

They came in to a kind of reception. It was empty save for a woman in her early forties sitting behind a desk. Lara knew the woman very well. She was the proprietor of the shelter, Mrs (or was it miss?) Beatrice Padgett. A stern but just woman well suited for the job.

She looked up at them and smiled.

"Ah, Lady Croft! How nice to see you again!". For some reason she didn't seem to react to Lara's outfit. Lara smiled nervously back at her.

"Mr. Remington has told me all about the project," Mrs. Padgett continued, "I think it is great of you boys to make a documentary about the lives and hardships of some of our residents. And it is a nice gesture from you Lady Croft to participate!"

Lara struggled to find words, she just smiled and nodded.

"Lady Croft hardly needed any convincing," Jimmy said "she is a fantastic individual, a true saint!".

"I'm very looking forward to see your film when you are finished," Mrs Padgett said, "Your interviewees are waiting for you," she motioned towards a hallway.

"I'm sure the documentary will be spectacular," Jimmy said while the two other boys were struggling not to crack up with laughter.

They brought Lara down the hall to a door. Lara's mind was full of questions as she balanced down the hallway.

"Party time!" Jimmy said as he opened the door.

What awaits behind the door?
