Sensory Indulgence

Chapter 9 by outerwell

Progressing along, you enter an area of increased activity. While not overbearing, the varied, simultaneous, and often contrasting stimuli required you to focus intently at task at hand. The thoughts, at first seemingly random, now had a position in the space you occupied, flickering to and fro like static electricity through yourself. At the same time, the area outside of you became more apparent. The thoughts seemed to originate primarily from wherever "up" was, the region above emanating a power not unlike a Tesla coil.

You decided to stop while you were ahead, checking the thoughts around you. Lowering your defenses, you allowed the thoughts full exposure. What you saw was interesting; each zipping spark seemed to be an object which she was focusing upon. Slowly, a scene was illustrated for you. The images were all of her mother's face, in a warped manner that emphasized the daggers in her eyes.

You paused with regret, realizing this was probably the result of your anger. Your existence, however physically superficial it seemed, had an overbearing effect on the girl's mind. You fleetingly pitied her, but your personal situation was of greater importance.

Sealing off the images, you noticed a particular flow of sparks which cut between this zone and... what you assumed to be her consciousness. Extending your form yet again, you carefully traversed the relatively quiet space parallel to this flow, until the empty space around it became more and more constricted. While the flow was powerful, it "felt" very ordered, rhythmically charging past you like a flooded creek.

Carefully, you attempted to probe the stream. However, after initial contact, a great, ambiguous, attractive force pulled you fully into the stream. Being mentally prepared, you still held on to the connections below.

It was immediately apparent what the stream represented: it was the information to and from her vision, unfiltered.
