Chapter 5 by Shibbar Shibbar

What do you do?

Security Office

You open the door to the security office, and you regret in nearly immediately. The stench **** your nostrils like nails being driven into your tonsils. It's unmistakably the smell of rotten flesh. But it does seem safe; no infected monster jumps out and attacks you. Resisting the urge to puke you enter, the door closing behind you.

It's a tiny office, barely big enough for a desk, a set of shelves and a trunk. A half torn, half eaten corpse of a security guard sits decomposing on the chair in front of a large monitor that stands tall on the desk. You don't recognise him at all, but then again, you weren't exactly chummy with him in the first place. The power should've been disconnected a long time ago, yet the monitor still casts a soft, eerie light on everything. Must be on an emergency power generator. The monitor, split into about twelve or so squares, shows every camera attached to this apartment block. You peer through them one by one. You can hardly believe your eyes. Infected, dozens of infected everywhere, milling about, bumping into walls and each other. The perimeter alone contains more infected than there were people living in this building, with the exception of the entrance which is luckily deserted. You flick through the cameras on each floor. It seems you were lucky; your floor is apparently the only floor completely free of the freaks. Some floors, like floor five, is jam packed full of them. It's almost terrifying watching them. They're just... standing there in a daze, as if they were on another world. Switching to the camera on the roof you find that people did try to weather it out on the top, but now all that remains of them are corpses and bloodstains. You give the security guard a glance; how were you able to last as long as you did? You'll most likely never know.

Done with the cameras, you search the office for anything useful, but you find nothing. You turn to leave, carefully peeking out the door first before you exit.

The door closes behind you.
