Chapter 11 by gothamalleyviper

What happens in the morning?

Scarlet arrives in Boston

“Hello Red,” the blonde man smiled.

Very few people could claim they were abused by their parents without ever being touched. With the name Moose Alice McGriff, he was set up for mayhem and **** at the hands of everyone on his small Maine island home town. At six foot two and two hundred pounds the blonde was a lumberjack from hell.

“Hello Moose,” Scarlet said calmly.

“How was the flight?” Moose asked calmly.

“Coach,” Scarlet sighed.

“Let’s go,” Moose smiled, “We got everything set up. Let’s hit the road.”

Baroness smiled cruelly into the camera as the doctor gave the report on Zartan’s condition.

“You don’t seem all that displeased Baroness,” Major Bludd smirked.

“Couldn’t have happened to a better idiot,” Baroness said with a chuckle.

It had been a quite drive, Moose hadn’t said anything on the drive from airport to the center of town. Scarlet wasn’t inclined to share information so they just sat in silence. Without saying anything, Moose pulled into the drive-thru of a Dunkin Donuts.

“What do you want?” Moose turned and asked Scarlet.

“Ah,” Scarlet was caught off guard, “Breakfast sandwich and an Iced Frappuccino?”

“Can I get a Coffee, large and black, an iced Frappuccino, a breakfast sandwich, an onion bagel with cream cheese and Boston Crème donut with a lot of powdered sugar,” Moose ordered, “And can I get each of those in a separate bag please?”

Scarlet arched an eyebrow and gave him a questioning look. Pulling around Moose paid and collected the orders. He handed the bag with the sandwich to Scarlet and started eating his bagel as he drove.

“I don’t know what’s worse?” Scarlet tried to joke, “The traffic or your driving.”

“Welcome to Boston,” Moose said, “We are here. See the store front on the corner across the street? That’s the place.”

“So what do we do?” Scarlet asked.

“Well,” Moose spoke while he chugged the coffee, “There is a badge and a set of cuffs in the glove box for you. I figure if you follow a suspect into the store, you have to check the place out.”

Moose pulled his wallet and cuffs from behind his back and handed them to Scarlet and then reached his hand down his pants and started pulling something out.

“Ok, stop it right there!” Scarlet said sharply.

“Hang on,” Moose pulled out a monster sized mini pistol, “Here you go, a side arm.”

Scarlet staired at him and the pistol.

“Oh relax, I had a holster sown into the inside of my cargo pants to appendix carry this baby. Here,” Moose handed her the pistol.

“What the hell is this?” Scarlet asked confused at the thing.

“New made derringer in forty-five, seventy. Great for taking down rioting drunk bears on the rampage,” Moose grinned.

“How many drunk bears riot in Boston?” Scarlet asked.

“You have never been here during the Stanley Cup have you?” Moose said, “Give me a minute’s head start and come chase me into the shop and arrest me. This is going to hurt.”

Moose opened the bag, pulled out the sugar covered donut and pinched it with his fingers and then mushed it into his face and then snorted it before putting the donut back in the bag and leaving. Scarlet sighed and wondered what the hell was the plan. She pulled the badge and cuffs and put them on her belt and tucked the pistol into her jacket pocket. She grabbed the keys from the steering column and got out. Hitting the lock button, she spotted Moose duck into an alley and followed him. As she approached she spotted him coming out of the alley holding the donut bag and looking like a druggy after a few to many hits.

“SHIT!” Moose screamed and started running down the sidewalk.

“Freeze!” Scarlet yelled and chased after him.

Sure enough he ran across the street and into the store front. She rushed in behind him.

“DEA!” Scarlet shouted pulling the badge from her belt and held it up, “A man entered here.”

“He ran in back!” one of the two women shouted, “He ran in back!”

“Hello?” the other woman was making a phone call on her cell phone, “Nine-one-one? A crazy guy just rushed into out store!”

Scarlet noted the panic in their voices. She went to go in back when Moose came rushing out the passage way from the back area screaming like a banshee on crystal meth. Scarlet tried to intercept and tackle him. After a few feet they hit a clothing rack and both of them tumbled to the ground. After a few minutes of wrestling a pair of Boston city cops came in and piled on. More cops came in and joined in. They managed to cuff Moose and started hauling him out.

“Man that guy is high a kite,” the fifth cop to come in said.

A sergeant got their attention by clearing his throat.

“And you are miss?” the Sergeant asked.

“Agent O’Hare,” Scarlet pulled the DEA Badge off the ground, “Where is his bag? He came in with a paper bag.”

“He had one when he went in back,” one of the women said.

“What is that?” the Sergeant asked into his radio, “Ah, Copy that, we will bring in the arresting agent and the suspect. Agent? Seems we are to escort you right to the station. Don’t worry, we will conduct a search for the missing evidence here. You ladies don’t mind do you?”

“Not at all,” both ladies said.

Scarlet went to the waiting police cruiser and one of the officers opened the front passenger side door for her before going back into the shop. The drive to the station was just as silent. The cops lead them into an interrogation room with a middle aged woman in a suit waiting.

“Thank you officers,” She said, “I’ll handle it from here.”

The officers put Moose in the chair and left.

“Special Agent in Charge Claire Rudolf,” the woman extended her hand to Scarlet.

“Sergeant O’Hara,” Scarlet shook the extended hand.

“Care to tell me why you arrested my agent?” Rudolf asked.

“I am trying to figure that out myself,” Scarlet admitted.

There was a knock at the door. A man in a shirt and tie walked in.

“Yes captain?” Rudolf asked.

“What exactly did your agent see?” the Captain asked.

“I observed the suspect acting odd, I noticed he had white powder on his face, he went into an alley and came back out with paper bag and acting even more freaky. He spotted me and ran like a grease pig out of a butcher’s shop,” Scarlet didn’t lie.

“The Sergeant on the scene found the bag, it had a donut in it,” the captain said, “So unless you folks found anything else…”

“Please take him down to the processing room and check him,” Rudolf said, “And if nothing else pans out process him for release. Agent, I believe you have to meet with Agent Hedwick. Can an officer take her back out to her car?”

“Sure thing,” the Captain said.

Lady Jaye and Flint walked into the S1 office and looked at the headquarter monkeys.

“Hart-Burnett signing out for leave?” Lady Jaye spoke up.

“One second,” the sergeant in charge said, “And you Sir?”

“Same,” Flint said.

The Sergeant came over with a pair of binders. He opened one marked Leave Log and spun it around for the two on the other side of the counter and started looking in the other binder.

“Here you go Specialist Hart-Burnett, and this is yours Warrant Officer Fairborn,” The sergeant pulled out the sheets and signed them.

“Can we get second copies?” Lady Jaye asked.

“Sure… Attention!” the Sergeant shouted looking up.

“At ease Sergeant,” Colonel Sharpe said from the door way, “Can I have a word with you two on your way out?”

“Yes Sir,” Flint and Lady Jaye said together.

What happens that afternoon?
